Because their parents provide them with all kinds of junk food to keep them happy.
Because their parents are not feeding them a healthy diet of fruits, veggies, and lean meats.
Because the kids are couch potatoes in front of the xbox or tv or computer and not getting any healthy exercise out of doors every day.
It all adds up to obesity. The kids I see around me are on the road to diabetes and a lifetime of horrible health issues.'

Obesity can be counted as an epidemic these days. Why? Lifestyle has changed in this generation. technology has developed, etc and the interest of learning, being active, etc has decreased. In addition, this world is wealthier and more developed. The United States is a superpower country and is very wealthy...Those not in poverty don't starve...There are many factors that lead kids to obesity.
#1 Food
In america, we are wealthy; kids eat a lot, etc. Plus, because there really is no famine etc the kids can eat all they want. But sugar, etc attracts kids more than healthy foods so they just pursue the junky foods...Parents also can spoil their children by infatuating them...or some parents just give bad food because they don't know nutriion themselves...Or Parents may have suffered obesity before, thus it can be passed down to their children
#2 Laziness
technology helps a lot but now it's making kids lazy. Many examples...Like going on the bus instead of walking. T.V is interesting and big part of culture, kids love T.V...some junk food to go with it makes Kids go crazy....Or videogames...They aren't exercising enough, they aren't burning calories, and eating chips on the couch makes it even worse...
#3 Culture
Well, not really culture but the motto for kids these days "Do whatever you want. Make yourself happy..."

I hardly ever see obese young kids around, but I know thye are out there.
I think young kids are obese because their parents overfeed them, or that their parents are obese too and it's hereditary.

Causes of Childhood Obesity
Obesity in children and teens (meaning a BMI-for-age above the 95th percentile) can occur as a result of different combinations of reasons, including environmental and genetic factors. However, it's important to realise that weight gain, whether leading to mild or severe clinical obesity, typically occurs only when a person consumes more calories than he/she expends. A large calorie surplus is typically needed to cause obesity.
Environmental Causes of Child Obesity
1. Insufficient Calorie Expenditure Through Exercise
The average American child spends a significant percentage of leisure time watching TV, or playing computer games. Few calories are expended during this sedentary activity. Not surprisingly, obesity rates are higher among children and teenagers who frequently watch television. In addition, only a small minority of children (1 in 5) regularly participate in after-school sports or extra-curricular physical activity.
2. Excessive Snacking
Excess nibbling is a probable cause of obesity in children. Americans are estimated to spend over $1 billion dollars a day on snacks. The average American eats the equivalent of a fourth meal every day. And children are no exception. Often surrounded at school by high-calorie snack vending machines dispensing (eg) sugary soft drinks, regular TV-watching exposes the child to a battery of high-energy snack foods and drinks.
3. Fast Food Diet
Over-consumption of fast food is another probable cause of child/teen obesity. In 1992, children aged 6-14 years ate in quick-serve restaurants on average 157 million times a month. Children are courted and targeted by many fast food chains, who promote super-size portions and all-you-can-eat offers.
4. Family Behaviors
It's difficult to separate genetic from family-environmental factors as causes of childhood obesity. Although children of obese parents are estimated to have a 25-30 percent extra chance of becoming obese themselves, part of this increased risk of obesity is probably due to eating habits and poor family nutrition, rather than heredity. Parental behavioral patterns concerning shopping, cooking, eating and exercise, have an important influence on a child's energy balance.
5. Body Image
Obesity in a child or adolescent may also be encouraged by a distorted body image, due to peer pressure, parental influence - including attitude of parents to weight loss and dieting.

blame the parents!
if an adult is fat then it's their fault and they should learn to control their eating habits and exercise more regularly. With kid's it's different, it's the role of the parents to ensure their kids have a healthy diet. The kids are gonna end up getting bullied at school and suffer from all sorts of diseases. fat kids parents should be shot

Bad parenting...pure and simple. But the older a kid gets they become more responsible for their actions. Bad diet and lack of exercise.

I think we spoil them by letting them eat what they chose instead of making sure they receive healthy diets. We also indulge them in video games, computers and cable televison so that they sit glued to a chair instead of getting outside and getting physical exercise.
