Propoxyphene
(proe POX i feen)
Darvon, Darvon-N, PP-Cap
Propoxyphene will cause drowsiness and fatigue. Avoid alcohol, sleeping pills, antihistamines, sedatives, and tranquilizers except under the supervision of your doctor. These may also make you drowsy.
• Propoxyphene will also cause constipation. Drink plenty of water (six to eight full glasses a day) to lessen this side effect. Increasing the amount of fiber in your diet can also help to alleviate constipation.

The number one thing to remember with Darvocet or propoxyphene ... never drink alcohol while taking this schedule IV narcotic. About 6 years ago there was a significant increase in the number of deaths associated with people drinking while on this medication. While considered a relatively safe pain medication it's interaction with alcohol is very dangerous.
