I want to have all the hair on my cat permanently removed so that I can have him tatooed all over. Can anyone advise how I can do this?

Also, any ideas for cat tatoos? I want him to look cool with street cred.

How about that naked lady silhouette on the back of truckers mud flaps right across the back. MOM in a heart is always a classic.

Dear Guitarvirgin,

I too have often pondered similar issues regarding feline hair removal and body modification. The reduced drying time for hairless cats is a worthwhile benefit and should not be overlooked. The additional consideration of tattos is just genius! Well done. I like the cut of your jib!

Taking the hair-removal question first: I think you will find that a perminant solution may be impractical. Finding someone willing to perform this sort of proceedure on a cat is pretty unlikey given the whole animal welfare thing. Just look at the type of politically correct nonsence you have recieved from the responses so far. Not to mention that laser hair removal requires repeat treatments at around $100 (£55) each time. This makes this quite an expensive proposition.

It may work out cheaper just to start over and get a hairless cat. In this case I would reccomend the Abysinian breed. They are terrifying to look at, which would be a good starting point for the whole street cred thing.

Let's say for sake of argument that you managed to overcome the perminant hair removal thing, and that you found a tattoo artist who was willing to give your cat a bit of a going over, there are several issues to consider for the actual design of the artwork:

1) He cat or she cat? (don't put dolphins and butterflys on your tomcat!)
2) City cat or country cat? (death metal type tattos may not go down that well if your cat hangs out in a more rural setting, whereas Greatful Dead logos and a pic of a John Deere tractor might go down a treat.)
3) Young cat or old cat? (take the age of your cat into consideration. There is nothing worse than a cat with tattos that have streched over time and now look unsightly)

Given all of this, I would keep your cat tatoos simple. Racing stripes or a nice Burbury check pattern are timeless classics. Avoid patterns that might stigmatise your cat and reduce his/her opportunities for the future. Remember, you don't want to prevent your cat from gaining useful employment later in life due to your bad judgement today.

Best of Luck

Special Raoul

Before you take such a drastic step, visit some of the pet boutiques. I am sure you can find some great outfits and bodysuits for your cat there. And if you change your mind about one costume, you can buy a new one!
My nephew came back from Harajuku, Tokyo with a whole set of outfits for his cat Buster. There was a tiger costume, a lion one, complete with mane, and a bulldog. Sadly, he didn't take any measurements (I guess he wasn't expecting to find such novelties!) so they were all too small ... is your cat a kitten? Will happily send them, if so!
P.S. What better time to go cat-costume shopping than right now! I bet there are some great Hallowe'en outfits out there!
Word of warning - you thought baby clothes cost a lot? Well, if you want to change your career and become rich overnight, become a pet clothes designer! Sounds like you have the right imagination for it - design a tattoo suit based on the Rolling Stones' "Tattoo Me" album cover?

I am pretty sure that would really hurt the cat which makes me question your love for your pet. Cats have hair for a reason (unless they are the breed that is hairless). Respect nature and let your cat be himself. Don't try to change him so that he has more "street cred." Cat obviously don't need street cred, they need to be healthy and happy. Tattoos are not a part of that.

Why would you want to strip a cat of something that personal? I would say if you feel you need to abuse a cat that way, just get rid of it.
