. . . and really lethargic too. I thought that I might be overdoing it, so I took 2 weeks off. But sure enough I go to the gym and 1/2 way through my workout -- I feel really lethargic, and I have this sharp cough. I just stopped and went home. But I noticed it doesn't take much for me to revert to this tired/sick condition with the cough. I always start with this sharp coughing when I get tired.

Maybe you have asthma. See a doctor.

Remember all those exercise programs on TV that say see your doctor before starting this program. You may have a physical problem that needs checking. Some possibilities are asthma or heart problems. If it is asthma they can prescribe inhalers to be used before exercise. If it is a heart problem or something else they can find out and treat the problem. Take care.

You didn't say that you had difficulty breathing or wheezing so the people suggesting exercise induced asthma are probably stretching it. The symptoms you describe during strenuous exercise are consistent with mild congestive heart failure. Don't let this scare you. Even if It is CHF it could be that you have just developed significant mitral regurg or something. See your MD, it might be nothing.

Best of luck
