If the turkey is stuffed you want to start it off at a higher temperature to get it hot quickly. I start mine, in a roaster with a lid, or covered in foil, at 425 for the first hour, then I turn it down to 350 and it will cook for about 20 minutes per pound. Then I take off the lid for the last 1/2 hour or so, and baste it every 1/2 hour or so. Cooked mine yesterday in lots of chicken stock and it was great. Good Luck.

If you are looking for something different to do with a turkey.... you can fry it. You can usually get a fryer now a days for not much money. They are so moist when you do it this way. :) You need to be really careful but my husband and I have done this the past two years and had no problems. You need to make sure that you read all of the directions before you use this though. It cooks quicker and is so Delicious!

First of all, NEVER use one of those foil roasters, they're dangerous.
I cook my turkey on its breast in an open roaster, covered with aluminum foil, in the oven at 300 degrees F. I put it in the oven before I go to bed and by dinner time the next day it's ready.
Be sure to baste as soon as you get up from bed.

yup, go to the butterball website, there is even a phone number on the turkey itself...If you want a moist turkey that you will put on a platter already sliced instead of the whole bird just to look pretty, and dry...cook it upside down!!! Yes, upside down....the juices run into the breast meat and you'll never have a dry bird!!!!

also remember if it has been brined it will be less and if it has been stuffed a little more..... (I learned the hard way.....)
