What about just one? Is God not there? What about God's omnipotence, isn't God everywhere all the time?

I know that this is one of those Biblical inconsistencies, I was just curious as to how others work this one out. Serious answers please.

Thomas was dead on. Thanks!

Oh, and I do understand the inconsistencies in the Bible, I'm a religion major, and have spent thousands of dollars and 4 years doing Biblical Study. You try doing some reading.

hi, you left out " in my name " and that would be Jesus Christ, not God, God surrendered heaven's gate (the entrance) to Him, that’s why no muslim will ever enter heaven, ever.

The bible has no inconsistencies...it appears that way to you because you don't understand it...you have inferred into this particular scripture (because of bias thinking I assume) meaning that just isn't there. Just because JESUS made that statement does not mean he is not with someone who is alone. Why don't you stop trying to disprove the Bible and seriously study it with an unbiased mindset. The Bible is an anvil that has worn out many a hammer over the centuries....

Have you ever known a person of God to be by themselves?
Since God is love, and the only way to keep the Love is to give it away, then where God is, there will always be two or more.

1 John 4:7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.
1 John 4:12 No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.

When making that promise, Jesus was discussing judicial matters that needed to be handled correctly by those taking the lead in the congregation. (Matthew 18:15-19)

But Jesus’ words can also be applied in principle to all Christian gatherings that are opened and closed with prayer in his name. Remember, when Jesus commissioned his followers to do the disciple-making work, he promised: “Look! I am with you all the days until the conclusion of the system of things.”—Matthew 28:20.

Jesus & God are two separate persons.
JOHN 14:28

God will listen to prayers directed to Him at any time, any place.

Well, according to one priest, there are always two or more gathered in His name at any given time.

The example I was given was praying in a car. There's you, plus God, plus your guardian angel, plus any saints you're asking for intercession with, plus the Holy Mother, and the Holy Spirit. And I think Jesus got shotgun. Without praying, it's just you, your angel and God.

The passage you are referring to has to do with matters concerning decisions made by the church.

Matthew 18:17 If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church. And if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector. 18 Truly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. 19 Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. 20 For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them."

In other words, where two or more members of the church are gathered in Jesus' name to decide on a matter regarding whether or not someone should be allowed to remain in the congregation, Jesus is with them in spirit agreeing with their decision.

I think it is in reference to a "church". He wants us to gather to worship Him, so He is telling them that where two or more are gathered, He will be there. I believe He is everywhere, but in this instance, He was trying to get the point across of public worship.

"Concerned Mom" is correct. He was encouraging the gathering of Christians for worship.

God is immanent-that means he exists within all things, so the correct statement would be wherever any living thing exists, there will I be.
