Mathew Chapter 10:34
Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword. 35 For I have come to ‘set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law’; 36 and ‘a man’s enemies will be those of his own household.’, So , according to the Bible, Jesus isn't the "Prince of Peace" after all???

Jesus anti family? No my friend, it is just the opposite. You see, the family was invented by GOD. It is the basic unit of government and it was intended to be used to turn our hearts and minds toward God.

If a family followed the Bible as God intended, the father would be the head of the home but this does not make his wife a 2nd class citizen. Submission has to be offered, it can never be demanded. The father would be the ones teaching the children and God gave fathers the responsibility to do this. In Gods economy the children belong to the father.

Now if a father is abusive or absent, children will tend to see God as abusive and just waiting for them to do something wrong so He can "zap" them. Or they will see HIM as a God who is distant and does not care Neither is true.

This is why the family is important to God.

Here are a few things...list them in order of importance to GOD

1: Work
2: Ministry
3: Spouse
4: God
5: Friends.
6: Children

The proper order is God is first, our spouse next and our children after that. Family has to come even before ministry, even for a pastor. (please note that the best thing a father or mother can do for their children is to love their spouse. If we are doing this, the children will not be neglected or abused)

1 Timothy 3

1 This is a true saying, if a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.
2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;
3 Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;
4 One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;
5 (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)

How wrong you are, Cantankerous. These scriptures do not contradict themselves except in your mis-interpretation of them.

Jesus' coming would bring a sword which would divide families. This wasn't His desire but would be the sacrifice of many who believed on Him. And his prophecy is true. Haven't you seen it where a person comes to profess a belief in the Christ which causes his/her family to turn on them, ridicule them, belittle them, rail against them. I've see this many, many times. If you haven't seen this then you are blind indeed.

As for the "Prince of peace" quote. Accepting Christ into my life as my personal Savior has given to me a "peace which surpasses all understanding." There is nothing without or within which is able to shatter that peace.

I hope that you come to know this peace someday.

no it just means that as a result of sin, familiy members will be against each other. It is a prediction of what is happening today, children killing their parents, husbands killing wives, etc/ It is a result of the breakup of the family brought on by women's lib and the new view on discipline.

One needs to read the entire chapter.

Christ is saying that the world will hate the individual because he/she accepts Christ as Lord. He was preparing the people to face the reality that the "world" can very well include those that are closest to him/her (child, spouse, etc.). It was a responsible statement from someone that loves us to prepare us to handle the harshness of what was to come.

Jesus is still the Prince of peace. Households will be divided, because of disbelief.

Everyone takes this scripture out of context. Jesus is just telling his disciples that His presence on earth is going to be very controversial for generations to come. Have you read many of the posts on here? He was right.

The kingdom suffers violence, and the violent take it by force. We need to be deciding on our own. I love Jesus, this is what counts. If my family shouldn't, then I shouldn't side with them, but follow Jesus.

What glorius hypocrisy. The church is anti-family with all its gay, pederast and celibate priests!
Jesus was banging a prostitute and chilling with his homies. He was a hippy in his day, questioning authority, going to open mic nights, not working...
