My son is almost 11. He is in the 5th grade. He plays a lot of sports and we live in a warm climate. He smells awful. I keep after him to bathe and wash the sweat out of his hair but it has not been good enough. At what age do boys start wearing deoderant? He is against the idea. What is a good brand to start him with to get him use to it?

Get him keen to use it by getting something that doesn't sound offensive to him, like Adidas' line of Anti-perspirants.
Anti-perspirants work in a different way from deoderants, they help to prevent excessive sweating at the underarms and therefore prevent odour from sweat.

Something with a sporty image to it might help, and he might prefer sprays or roll-ons, depending on which seems more "manly" to use.

Remind him to smell himself, try asking him to smell an unwashed shirt at the sleeves, and sooner or later he is going to realise that girls might really mean it when they say boys stink. He is going to realise that girls dig nice smelling guys more.

He should start wearing it now! Take him to the store and have him help pick it out. My daughter is in 2nd grade and she wears deoderant. Not because she needs it - she asked about a boy in her class that really smells, especially after gym. I explained to her the importance of taking regular showers and deoderant. She asked if she could start wearing deoderant so she wouldn't have to worry about smelling so horrible! If your son doesn't want to wear it, he will eventually get teased and then his opinion on the matter may change. Good luck!

Chemical free for a sweaty guy?? May as well use a Bay leaf and try to smell like soup. He really doesn't need an anti-perspirant at his age.

Age depends on the whole hormonal issue. He certainly needs to shower every day and wash his hair. When he starts noticing girls, maybe he'll remind himself, but for now it's your job.

Of course, once he grasps masturbation, so to speak, his showers will get quite a bit longer.

um, when he startes going through puperty, it's not a sertain age , but around now, if he startes sweating, and it stinks, he is starting to become a "man" so i think you should start now,and when make sure he washes good under his arms, and puts on deoderant every morning and when he is playing sports, keep wipes and DEGREE deoderant, so he doesn't put on a another coat of it, that makes it stink more. but you know i have to deal with my little brother , when he comes to visit at my place, he's 12.

Sunflower oil, olive oil, with a scent, top to toe. I know you need more natural water in your area by what you describe. a deodorant. I use'm, because I fast my tap water. When you can find a male musky flagrance I 'm sure he will comply.... There's nothing so embarrassing as having a heavily scenting around you, by sweat worked up by negative labour.... One of my friends of old works with trains in the cleaning department.... You would not believe some stinkies he comes home with.....
Besides, when the odour is not around him..... Ask him to take the test at school... When he meets a classmate's smile rather than anxiety to get out of his aura??? You're a true mum, so you are creative.... Cosmic Union should arrange that for You....

My son started wearing anti-perspirent/deodorant the beginning of his 11th summer. I explained to him the need for it. Boys his age were going to start soon too. It was and is something one does to take care of himself. No one is going to have anything to do with him if he smells, especially girls. He sure does not want a couch calling him stinky.

I'm not sure what brand to tell you to use, but if he is 11, he is definitely old enough to wear deodorant. Tell him that he's going to become known as the "stinky" kid if he doesn't shower daily and wear deodorant. My brother was 10 when he started wearing it. Tell him the girls will like it when he smells good. :)

My son is 8 and wears the same kind of deod as his dad. I think Speed Stick Gel. My son doesn't need it everyday, but he puts it on everyday to instill the habit. Your boy needs to get into the habit. If he smells already, it's only going to get worse.

Whenever they start to smell of BO! My son started using a roll-on after his morning shower from age 10. He loves choosing it himself from the man's section!
