I'm Muslim but not a woman..so I can tell you what my mother or my relatives feel:
Most Muslim women wear Hijab because they are convinced that it is right and that they are obeying to Allah..and that it makes them nearer to Allah and protects them from the looks from the eyes of wild men in the sreets..And when they hear someone criticising or mocking hijab they get angry because they see those people as they are trying to take descisions for them and tell them what should they wear or not.
There are others who wear it without being convinced and take it off at the first chance but those are usually not committed towards the teachings of Islam like doing the five prayers every day in their time and reading the Qur'an..but a big proportion of them change after some time..that's beside the women who don't wear it and wear the tight clothes and they are supposed to be Muslims..The point is how much are you strict and how much do you grasp your faith.
I think I gave you the image as it is in Islamic countries.

Honestly, I love it. I wanted to wear hijab to follow the Islamic tradition, even before I had declared myself a Muslim, but I was afraid of how people would react. After I became Muslim, I wanted to be identified as a Muslim by the general public, sort of as an unobtrusive way of saying "we're normal people and we live among you". But I was still afraid. I worried that I might lose my job if I changed my attire.
I met a little girl, 7 years old. She was being raised by her single father, and her mother was non-Muslim. I asked the girl's father if he would require her to wear hijab once she reached the age of maturity, and he said that he would like it very much if she did, but he would not force her. I talked with the little girl about it, and she said that the only women who wear hijab are the ones who stay at home, so she probably wouldnt, since she wanted to be a animal doctor.
I realized that this little girl had no role model who is an educated professional who observes hijab, so I decided that it was my responsiblity, as her friend, to dress the way my religion requires.
I've not seen that girl in quite a long time now, but I do not go out without hijab, because I feel good wearing it, comfortable, but like I am dressed up. I feel naked without too. I like being identified as a Muslim woman, and I've gotten questions and comments about my religion from many people. Sometimes I don't know the answers to the questions, and sometimes the people are really trying to be rude, but I find that a question answered to the best of my ability with a smile tends to pacify even the most bitter person.
Salam alaikum, Debra. That is the traditional greeting between Muslims, and it means "peace be with you".

I do not wear hijab or veil yet as there are no Islamic clothing stores where I live but once I get somewhere where there are islamic clothing stores I plan on wearing veil if not hijab though I am considering both. The hijab makes me feel more secure of my body. Plus I don't gotta worry bout looking like a piece of meat dangled before wild dogs(lustful men). I find it shocking that Muslims are the only people who seem to follow the Qur'an and that christian women do not notice that with a veil and hijab a muslim woman is not bothered by having to worry about her looks. Westerners who choose to go around in slutty degrading clothing and pass that along to their children are lost and unsure of themselves It seems the only people who enforce vaules on children anymore are muslims. And it hurts me to see that western women and men do not bother studying Islam and understand that the reason that muslim women wear the veil is because they respect themselves and fear ALLAH more than the westeners do so they will continue to wear the veil to protect themselves from lustful looks and will surely be honored by ALLAH.

We only made our women wear it because electrolysis was not an option until recently and because we breed like rutting weasels, we are too poor to afford it now that it is available.
