Along with most of the advice that's already been given about exercise - I would add my support to that and add a further suggestion:
Lie flat on the floor on your tummy - lift arms and legs (together) - (as though you were free falling) hold for a count of 5 - relax for a count of 5 - repeat lift for a count of five - do this in sets of 5 at least once a day - you should see some good results in a couple of weeks.

well...many people tell lots and lots of sweaty excercises are required to flatten ur tummy....but here are simple ways to get it flat as a pancake!!!:
1.first go for a walk 3-4 times daily....walk is really essential. A walk of say about 20 mins would do!
2.every morning after u wake up just go to a sitting posture(have a straight back) and breadthe in hold your breadth for say about 15 secs and let go...do this for 10 mins daily
i think this ought to be enough to flatten your stomach considerably!!!

Change of diet as well as exercise. You could have abs that are as hard as a rock, but there's a layer of fat over the top. Cut down on all the fat - butter / cheese / chocolate / alcohol (note I said cut down and not out). Regular exercise will speed up your metabolism with the result that even when you're not exercising, you will still be metabolising food. Apparently a slow jog is better for fat burning, while a faster one is cardiovascular. Best is to run for 100metres, then a slow jog for another 100m - or fartlac training (walk sprint run jog - in no particular order)

If you have stubborn belly fat, the only way you can reduce your fat is by doing aerobic exercises. During activities like swimming, rowing and walking, enough oxygen is supplied to the body to burn fat. Fat is burned from all over the body, including the stomach. If aerobic exercises are done regularly over a period of time, you will gradually lose weight. The healthiest way to prevent a fat stomach is by ensuring that your weight is normal for your height. Ensure that the energy provided by the food you eat matches the energy you burn performing your daily activities. Losing fat around the stomach takes time. If you are drinking a lot of alcohol you should really consider quitting!Otherwise no matter how many sit ups you do,you will not be able to have a flat tummy!Try to eat as healthy as possible (plenty of fruits and vegetables) and exercise a lot!Avoid junk food and soda drinks!

try 10 sit ups a day and so forth that way you are tightening up the muscles in your abdomen that might work for you.
