You have a lot of options, really

First question, though: Have you asked her? She might be picturing you in something that you haven't thought of.

In general, I would stay away from an all-black dress.

I think it would be ideal to have something in the same color as the bridesmaids - but that's just me.

I think you should ask the bride.

P.S.
Thanks for being there for her!

People have a tendency to be dressier in Chicago, so once they say informal ... it is nonetheless dressed up. You will have to put on some thing horny however no longer revealing, and some thing that you'll be able to transfer and sweat in. I like a brief black skirt (no longer too brief) with a few swing to it, paired with ankle or knee top boots. Wear patterned or fishnet tights. A glittery tank most sensible with a best, adorable jacket that you'll be able to take off for whilst you get too hot. If you have got received lengthy hair, do some thing amusing with it like braids or an up-do. Add a few glam -- sparkly jewellery that you do not brain wasting at the dance ground, and glittery make-up that'll seem well below the membership lighting fixtures.

You can wear a traditional mother of the bride dress, this is what my sister did at my niece's wedding. You Do not have to "match" the wedding party as you won't be standing with them, but a complimenary color for the pictures is good.
