Hmmm were do we start on this one!!! Ok I think it was about 15 years ago doctors in the US claimed they found the gene that makes people criminals. Quite a claim I think you will agree. This claim involved testing thousands of inmates at the time being held for various crimes. Now on the surface it looks like we could soon be living in a crime free world after all if we can test for the gene then we can lock all the criminals up before they commit crimes. But hold on we can test all unborn children in the womb and if we find the gene the we can abort. Might cause a few anti abortionists a dilema but I am sure they will cope. So many problems with this - right to a fair trial is one of them. Lets say I have the gene and that is detected is it right for the authorities to lock me up just in case i may commit a crime????? Taking that one stage further and answering the question posed - if being a paedophile is genetic (not learned behaviour) then are we running the risk of passing (the illness) on. Remember people they said there was no danger to humans from eating beef that came from cattle with CJD. Tell that to the families. For those who are interested the results of the tests were proved flawed in that just as many people who had not committed any criminal offences had the same so called criminal tendancy genes as those in prison. I think we need to be very very careful when we start playing with genetics

What if pedophilia was a result of a genetic mutation/problem - then any results obtained would be useless. There is also the problem that some paedophiles were victims of abuse from childhood themselves meaning they never knew any different or any better. I'm not excusing it and personally think they should be locked up and the key destroyed but before doing anything like your question suggests there are a huge variety of aspects that have to be considered. As for castration, as one person suggested, this has been proven to make sex offenders much more violent, not only do they continue to sexually abuse but they have progressed to killing their victims.

Do you mean using them instead of animals for medical research? If so then yes, I think this would be a great idea, it would be a suitable punishment for them and it would also give us the opportunity to learn more to help other people.
No doubt you would get the human rights brigade saying it was taking away their human rights though.

Yes. It is better than torturing helpless animals, all new drugs etc should be tested on level 1 crims (paedophiles and similar types).

Aloha from Down Unda!
Did you mean ~
"Do you think we should use stem cell research & general medical testing on paedophiles?"?
Only if it is WITHOUT anaesthetics & certain to inflict EXTREME bodily & mental suffering to the paedophile!
[Shame on me, huh?!!]

if parents of victims get to do the procedures with absolutely no medical training whatsoever and paramedics and do gooders are given a 100 mile radius restraining order...we couldn't have any interference if anything went horribly wrong now could we? ;0)

All medical testing should be done on any long-term prisoner. Generally Drug testing is very safe so it wouldn't be a problem. But, on the odd occasion it goes wrong, then who would care.

I have been a long time proponent of using capital criminals for medical research.
Have fun but be safe!
