You know what I mean - they walk around with their hands back in the shoulder holes of their vests. Shouldn't these vests have pockets for them to put hands in without looking like they're playing at being chickens, or the police women looking like they're cupping their boobs?

Carla - get a life. I'm not mocking anything. Just stating an observation.

just something we do lol its a place to put our hands, its like we rest our arms on our guns sometimes its just comfortable; the reason we dont have pockets is because on the vests you're talking about are made for tactical entry aka swat; those vests need to be as light as possible and not snag on anything in a quick entry. imagine the first swat officer into a hostage situation getting snagged on a nail in the door because of his vest then the whole team is bunched up like a traffic jam it puts the officers lives on the line as well as the hostages. hope i helped

I am not a cop, but I am a soldier and I also do the same thing when I am wearing my fragmentation vest.

Normally, I stick my hands in my pockets, but the bottom of my vest covers my pockets. My vest naturally hangs off my back and when I push it forward by resting my hands in the arm holes it slightly relieves the strain on my spine.

But lets face it, no one looks good in a fragmentation vest, so I might as well at least try to make it as comfortable as possible.

Its a comfortable stance. There are no pockets, as police officers are not allowed to stand about with their hands in their pockets as that is deemed unprofessional. Putting your hands like that takes the strain off the back, which is painful due to the weight being carried around the waist on the utility belt.

I never put my hands in the sides of my vest by my arm pits. I can tell you that you sweat a good bit in the vest regardless of the time of year and I am not big on rubbing my sweat all over my hands. I always put my hands inside the front collar of my vest, but that is to pull it down when it starts riding up. I always rest my hands on my gun belt. Usually one hand on my gun and the other on my magazine pouch.

Im a police officer and i know what you mean. I do it myself.

Its a bit of a lazy thing. I do it because it is comfortable and it looks better than standing there with your hands in your pockets.

Also if its cold it warms your hands up.

HAHA, never noticed. Maybe the body armor is like, super tight and squeezing their ribcage and so they put their hands in to relieve the pressure? :p I dont know.

Simple solution,if it bothers you dont look.I have never noticed this but I have better things to do with my time than to mock the way officers stand.

It's also an intimidation tactic. Get your hands out and be prepared.

Try wearing body armour for a ten hour shift and you would know why. It is %%% uncomfortable.
