Eat 30 minutes after you run. But since your aim is to lose weight, try to drink 10-15 glasses of water a day. No to carbonated drinks, sweets, salty, spicy and fatty food. I did it and as of today, I lose weight from 75kilos to 62 kilos in 3 months :) Try it.

A banana. A Powerbar. Toast or English Muffins with jam (no butter) are all good suggestions. You also should drink some water or Gatorade as you want to be well hydrated. Avoid anything heavy or filled with grease. Sausage, eggs, hash browns, etc are all very bad before a morning run. Also avoid tomato or orange juice or anything acidic. The important thing is to eat lightly for breakfast so that you won't be carrying too much in your stomach during your run. The time to fill up is during the dinner you have the night before. Make sure you get plenty of carbs and proteins. If you run 10Ks consistently you need carbs too. Pasta, breads, rice, beans, vegetables, and fruit are all excellent sources the night before and by the next morning you should have energy even eating a light meal for breakfast. If you eat well the night before you will not fall short the next morning during your run.

Get your blood sugar up before with a glass of OJ, grapefruit, or? After the workout, drink at least 8 oz of water then eat breakfast. If you eat first, you'll just have your body multitasking between digestion and exercise.

When you eat, blood is redirected to the digestive system. When you exercise, the digestive system is shut down as the blood is called for use by the muscles. That's the basis for not swimming immediately after eating.

It's better to eat after your workout. It's less stressful on your system.

After, when you wake up your body has used up most of your carbs so it has to resort to burning fat while you're running.
