Hello dear!
When you have to change scale throughout your calculations, you either change it at the beginning or the end. For this, it might be easier to do it at the beginning:
Thus: 1 meter = 100 cm. So, 100 cm times 100 cm = (100 X 100) (cm X cm) = 10,000 square cm

1 meter times 1 meter is the same as 100 cm times 100 cm.

So, the area is 10000 square centimeters.
