Milling is the process that creates the difference between brown and white rice. The variety of rice may be identical, but milling removes the husk from the grain and turns the brown rice to white. This is why milling is often called "whitening".

There are many varieties of rice and some are virtually black and wild rice is brown...The high starch content in some rice makes it white but others have a lower starch content as well as other polysaccrides and are differently colored.

The outer covering ( I believe it's called the shaft ) is removed. When it is left on, you have brown rice.

if u r asking for raw rice - - it depends on the quality & variety of ri

ce. harvesting ,climate,processing all these effect its color.

if u r asking for cooked rice - - put some drops of lime juice
while cooking it .See the difference.

white rice has had the "hull" polished off of it..

the brown rice hasnt had the hull" removed

it's polished to give it a brighter look & to increase it's sale because actually rice is brown in colour!!!
