except Delhi , I have not seen broad roads in Indian cities. we donot learn or enjoy good way of driving so far. we envy, even small countries have good roads.

Thousands of people die each year in road accidents purely because of narrowness of roads. May be the Governments think this is one method of population control that surely works!!!
It is so pathetic to travel or drive on such roads after 6 decades of independence. God bless our future generations.

There are different kinds of problems in India.
It is a very old nation and properties are owned for hundreds of years. The old roads were just wide enough for a bullock cart or horse drawn coach. To widen these roads acquiring property is not easy. Most of the old properties are owned by Politicians and their henchmen. So road widening in these areas is ruled out.
As far as the new areas are concerned there is no planning for building a proper city. The governments of each sate has its own policy which get changed with the change of ruling party.
Of-course a lot of ideas are being put forward by the intellectuals but the politician is always there to spoil things.

Construction of roads anywhere in India is a source of permanent Fund like floods in Monsoons.If we construct good roads then unemployment line will go up and there will be no employment.Hence tenders are open and contracts are given to contractors every year dear.

india is a poor country for india its difficult to fill the stomach of its hungry sons (theleaders) of the country and another thing there is a bunch of those crooks who cover the road area in their premises as its their dad's property

you got it wrong the indian govt spens a lot of money and build lots of good roads it doesnt spend even a ruppee in maintainence
