A person can be forgiven on their deathbed, but most people aren't so lucky to be able to know when they will die. So the ones who keep ignoring Christ might not get a chance and might be past their deathbed before they realize they should've acted sooner. And then it's too late.
But as for the "fairness" of someone repenting on their deathbed after a life of selfishness, there's no reason God should let ANY of us into heaven in the first place except by grace alone through faith in Christ. So a person who has lived their whole life for themselves and repents on their deathbed gets the same reward as the rest of us who don't deserve it in the first place either.

I'd say the Thief on the Cross had a deathbed repentance! What did Jesus say to him?
Jesus said to the thief on the cross who repented "Today (Present tense) you will be with me in paradise" (Luke 23:43).
This thief was neither baptized nor partook of the Lords supper he believed and was promised to be with Jesus.
However, Remember that no matter the circumstances, God will know if someone is sincere about their repentence and I would never advise that someone wait until thier last few breaths to try and have a right heart with God.

No. Jesus Christ came to save us from our sins not in our sins. Repentance is for us to forsake sin and progress and become someone better through the Atonement of Jesus Christ. The scriptures say that:"Yea, I would that ye would come forth and harden not your hearts any longer; for behold, now is the time and the day of your salvation; and therefore, if ye will repent and harden not your hearts, immediately shall the great plan of redemption be brought about unto you.

34 Ye cannot say, when ye are brought to that awful crisis, that I will repent, that I will return to my God. Nay, ye cannot say this; for that same spirit which doth possess your bodies at the time that ye go out of this life, that same spirit will have power to possess your body in that eternal world".
Although the earlier one repents sincerely, the better. God knows the hearts and intentions of everyone.
Therefore, a heart that says I can do whatever I want and say I will repent at the last minute, that is NOT a pure heart and that person's hands will not be washed clean through the blood of Christ. it's like cram studying for an exam which does not profits the student at all. He sacrifice is applicable only for those with contrite spirit and broken heart. Once one knows that he/she must repent, he/she is responsible to use their agency to choose to repent because God will judge us on how much we used the light we were given in this life.

No. Allah is very merciful and accepts repentance but so long as you are away from death, and have the chance and power to do wrong or right. What does a deathbed repentance mean when you already have no chance to do good or bad deeds? It is not repentance as much as a realization that you were wrong and should have repented earlier. This is what Islam and the Quran teach us.

When there is repentance, Jehovah pardons sin, but he does not give exemption from deserved punishment for serious wrongs.
(1)Â True repentance is manifested by deeds, not just words;
(2)Â Sacrifices alone do not please God;
(3)Â Jehovah feels hurt when his worshippers turn away from him; and
(4)Â To reap what is good, we must sow what is good.
How can one possibly repent on ones deathbed where there was no actions to indicate that there was a turning around?

It doesn't "seem fair" but that is the way it is. God is all about forgiveness. No one can repent just because they know it is the last minute unless he or she really means it. God knows what is in our hearts.

The bible says just call upon my name and you shall be saved
If your living for God, and doing all you can, you will problem get to go right on into the city of God.
But I feel people who die excepting Christ on the death bed,
only get to Abraham's bosom,
They have to eat the leaves of healing.
I feel they have to wait till we all get home, then we who know the bible can teach them, then they too can go right on in..
But I feel there is a long, long long old line, with people waiting to get into heaven, but you must know Jesus, and the bible, and have walked it, and believed it.
So, that is what I have gotten out of the good book.
Some ware robes, and some ware gowns,

it doesn't matter if we think its fair or not.... what matters is that God loves us so much, He is willing to forgive us of anything, even though we don't deserve it
even if its at the last minute
Don't be mistaken though, He will see whats in their heart....and that is what will make ALL the difference
