I'm thinking enough is enough with the thyroid gland excuse. Why can't people just accept responsibility for poor eating habits and lack of exercise? And the doctors are no help either. The medical community is always giving people pre-packaged excuses for why obesity or simply being overweight is not their fault. Respond if you dare!!!!

Have you ever thought that the overweight people you are meeting actually do have a thyroid disease? Pre-packaged excuse? So what do you give the anorexics and the bulimic? I guess they have a pre-packaged excuse too. Yeah, because being having an eating disorder does effect the severely overweight and the several underweight. And not necessarily are the people who are overweight eat alot and don't exercise, some people were born to be large and there isn't anything within their means that they can do.
I think you should get over this petty stupidity of yours. What you are saying is just as bad as if you were slandering another race or religion.

FYI: No I'm not a pissed 'fat' girl. I'm quit thin actually, just tired of stupidity.

Thyroid disease is not an opinion, it's a fact. It's easily proven with a blood test. Fully 40-60% of individuals in the U.S. have abnormal readings [that's low as well as high] at SOME time in their life...

That's probably why you hear it a lot, because it's actually REALLY prevalent!

But the pills that you take for thyroid are easy, and small. AND they're extremely effective! So if a person HAS REALLY been to the doctor and gotten this diagnosis, then they've also gotten treatment, and should be dropping weight [or gaining weight] NO PROBLEM!

If you want to know whether or not they're making a excuse, ask them which thyroid medicine they're on. If they don't know, then they're lying.

I went into my doctor complaining loud and long - I was eating FANTASTIC, going to the gym 3 times a week, and still not dropping weight, and I felt depressed, and generally like crap. Turned out - low thyroid!

within 4 days of starting the meds, I felt like a million bucks, and within 1 month I had dropped 10 pounds (from 235 to 225.) I feel so fantastic now and this weight is falling off of me. I look like I did when I was 23.

So the person's attitude will tell you the truth, I think.

I understand partially how you feel, that obesity is an issue and some people need to take responsibility for their weight. But some people do have medical issues that prevent them from losing weight. I don't think that it was right of you to post a question like this, basically stating that you are better than everyone. I am in no way overweight but yet I listen to people and put myself in their shoes before I make a judgement. Not everyone is perfect and many people can't control themselves, when it comes to food there are many disorders accociated with food. You need to understand a person's medical history, family background and lifestyle before you begin to judge them. You are a truely ignorant person and you need to wake up and start thinking about yourself and not how others are eating or living their lives.

Being kinder to others makes your individual battles seem much less or perhaps seems to combat your individual battles for you. i'm a giver frequently and sense my issues are insignificant while in comparison with others while there develop right into a time while it develop into the choice, at a time I did little or no giving. That develop right into a private cycle I went by using and sense if everybody develop into doing comparable then clearly there could be extra order and peace. i could say i'm a extra beneficiant soul now, yet much less tolerant of people who're 'needy' Is that a contradiction? I cherished Haz's answer too - i've got faith I certainly have and do extra effective than my honest proportion of being variety

Well, maybe the people you meet actually have thyroid problems. You take a blood test to find out if you have it. It isn't their fault that they are overweight.

Well, why do you care? I guess the problem does exist for some, and if for others they can't face their own shame, then what business is it to us? Not that I like it, but what choice is there? Just ignore, and hope they don't go to the beach.
