If a man marries, then decides that he hates his wife, he can claim she wasn't a virgin when they were married. If her father can't produce the "tokens of her virginity" (bloody sheets), then the woman is to be stoned to death at her father's doorstep. 22:13-21 If a man rapes an unbetrothed virgin, he must pay her father 50 shekels of silver and then marry her. 22:28 If you see a pretty woman among the captives and would like her for a wife, then just bring her home and "go in unto her." Later, if you decide you don't like her, you can "let her go." 21:11-14
Glad it's the new millenium, huh, girls?

Morenita - I understand the Bible perfectly well, thank you. However, I'm using this as a way to point out some things to people. If you think I'm doing it to be funny, you're missing the point. This is what Christians supposedly "believe".

Don't worry, even though fundamentalist christians say you have to believe the entire bible is the inerrant word of god, they mostly ignore Deuteronomy and Leviticus. All those pesky laws about how to treat your slaves, kill your kids for being insolent etc.

Among the Hebrews a concubine occupied a position in the nature of a secondary wife and was sometimes spoken of as a wife. It appears that concubines were slave girls, one of three kinds: (1) a Hebrew girl sold by her father (Ex 21:7-9), (2) a foreign slave girl purchased, or (3) a foreign girl captured in warfare (De 21:10-14). Some were the slave girls or handmaids of the free wife, as in the cases of Sarah, Leah, and Rachel.—Ge 16:3, 4; 30:3-13; Jg 8:31; 9:18.

Concubinage was in existence before the Law covenant and was recognized and regulated by the Law, which protected the rights of both wives and concubines. (Ex 21:7-11; De 21:14-17)

Concubines did not have all the rights in the household that the regular wife had.

Husbands were allowed to divorce (only for something indecent on wife’s part); he was required to give wife written certificate of divorce (De 24:1-4)

No divorce allowed if husband had married wife after seducing her (De 22:28, 29)

You know what I point that same "marriage law" out all the time. Several Christians email me from this site to try to debate with me. They ask me to give them verses in the bible which proves what I am talking about when I say things in the bible are crazy and no one does or should do anymore, or contradicts it's self. When I point that out most of them are like "what are you talking about that's not in the bible." So I tell them where it's at in the bible and they look it up. They then reply by saying "well times have changed our laws have been upgraded." So I reply " Oh really well times have changed, so why do people still follow the bible since its not been updated? I guess they just updated what fits into their lifestyle.
Glad it's the new millennium and glad I am not a christian. Also most Christians don't like it when people point out the faults in their bible. So they give you angry response. LOL

Do you know what Thomas Jefferson said? (Yes this is very relevant)

I was in the Jefferson Memorial in D.C. and I read this incription:

I am certainly not an advocate for frequent changes in laws and constitutions. But laws and institutions must go hand in hand with the progress of the human mind. As that becomes more developed, more enlightened, as new discoveries are made, new truths discovered and manners and opinions change, with the change of circumstances, institutions must advance also to keep pace with the times. We might as well require a man to wear still the coat which fitted him when a boy as civilized society to remain ever under the regimen of their barbarous ancestors.

This sort of tells me why certain parts of the Bible, Torah, and Quran shouldn't be taken as specifics.

most christians intentionally try to deny about the events that took place in 100AD during the compilation of the Bible -- how parts of it were added, rejected, deleted and even ordered destroyed. now how does any man -- why even representative of God -- have the right to decide about the Bible and gospels. again they intentionally deny what happened to Bbible during the 14th century French Revolution and Renaissance period. things changed and many rules of Bible were changed. even today SOME Christians hardly follow the TRUE teachings of JESUS. the rules of this Holy Book seem to be altered according to each one of their convenience.

And seest in the number of the captives a beautiful woman, and lovest her, and wilt have her to wife, 12 Thou shalt bring her into thy house: and she shall shave her hair, and pare her nails, 13 And shall put off the raiment, wherein she was taken: and shall remain in thy house, and mourn for her father and mother one month: and after that thou shalt go in unto her, and shalt sleep with her, and she shall be thy wife. 14 Rut if afterwards she please thee not, thou shalt let her go free, but thou mayst not sell her for money nor oppress her by might because thou hast humbled her.

wait i thought if she becomes your wife you can't "let her go"
