They can apply for charity care at a hospital or apply for state insurance - like Medicaid - government assisted programs. And there are also medical clinics - including ones for mental health that charge on a sliding scale fee meaing that they will only charge you based on your income. Check the government pages or call information/search for medical clinics in your area. A good way to find one is to call your local hospital and ask them if there are any clinics associated with that hospital - call a few of them if need be. Hospitals will also take you into the ER - they have to and most of them will arrange a payment plan in order to allow you to pay what you can per month - but beware that an ER will charge you much more than a dr visit would.
There should be more options - it isn't right that some people can't get the help they need - whatever the problem may be.

find a cheap doctor that will help you out. Im in the same predicament and cannot get insured so I found a doc that is cheaper than most and he sends me for tests at the local hospital so I can get financial aid for those. If I got them done at the doc office it would cost a fortune

I would get insurance before you go into the doctor. Otherwise it could be seen as a preexisting condition. You might try getting a quote online. I shopped around & they were able to offer me the lowest price by far. Go to: http://www.insureme.com/landing.aspx?Refby=613176&Type=health

You can usually go to your emergency room, most hospitals have papers that you can fill out that allows you to get the help you need at a fraction of the cost. Most of the time it depends on your income and stuff like that.

They can get assistance with medical treatment from the welfare office or they can go to any emergency room and be seen by a doctor regardless of their ability to pay, it's the law.

Go to the Emergency Room..In the US..they can not refuse service to anyone in the ER room. They will set you up with a billing payment plan but you can claim finacial hardship.

Definitely go to local college that has medical classes, nursing etc. They are always looking for people to study. The same goes for dental. Dental schools do your teeth for free.(Or nearly free)
Good Luck!

Probably go to the doctor and face up to the medical bills. Hopefully it's not serious. Do you really want to risk your health and well being over some money?
