Norway is the most expensive country outside Muslim countries to have a beer. They have good beer but a pint in a pub costs around close to 10 bucks 8 minimum.

Therefore flying in and out you can buy very cheap tax-free alcohol 12 bucks for a liter of whiskey, a buck for a can of beer and so, take advantage on that.

Even if you don't drink yourself the best present you can give to a Norwegian friend is to bring with you a whiskey or vodka (they even sell them on board and at the airport in landing) if you don't have a friend there you will have by bringing the a bottle and charging the same you pay at tax-free.

Its around £2.50 to £3 a pint in the UK. I went to Denmark (Aarhus) twice in the mid 1990s and it was 40Kr a pint then, so you havent had that much of an increase in the last 11 years! The most I've paid was in Norway (Bardufoss) in 2005. It was 60 NoKr for a pint, which worked out at £5.40. That was the cheapest beer on offer - some of it was 80 NoKr!! You'll find that prices are relative to income throughout Europe. The Scandinavians pay through the nose for alcohol, but their salaries are higher, and some of their things will be cheaper than over here. The bottom line is if you are a Dane/Swede/Noggy, come to the UK to get plastered and if you are a Brit going there expect to pay a lot!!!

HI, I was in bergen in January and boy oh boy the booze aint cheap. The hotel i was staying in was about £9 a half litre. Although i did manage to find cheaper (theres a couple of little irish pubs down by the fish market) about £4.00 a half litre. Theres also a half decent club which is relatively cheap, if i remember correctly it's called charlies.
If you are going to take alchohol with you then make sure you take a small amount out of the bottle first as this means you won't have to pay import/export tax. If you don't then you will end up paying the same as if you bought it in Norway. Hope you have a good time. Fantastic city!

Hi there.

There are some really nice bars around the waterfront but they are pretty steep, as you'd expect. We paid about 15 quid for a vodka and tonic and a beer (it was a large one of each though - bargain!). On one night we got drunk and deliberately tried to see just how much you could spend in a single night out on drink.... 200 quid between two of us. Hell of a night though!

If you aren't bothered about the ambience, but want a cheaper pint, there are some bars in the back-streets where you can get a pint for about 3 quid. If you stand on the Bryggen facing away from the water, take one of the roads uphill back from the dock. You'll find a road that is parallel to but behind the waterfront. On this road is a three-star hotel with a cheap bar (and cheap pizza when I was there last). Can't remember the name, but there are a couple of normal rather than ultra-swish places on this road.

Alternatively, get really hammered on the ferry - that is what the locals do!

if its anything like Sweden its ridiclous prices. I dont know how much beer cost but for a glass of wine it was £10. Norway have a mad tax on booze. i work for an airline and when you board a flight to Norway they are always late because they are in duty free stocking up. you can always hear them coming clinking along with their bottles. So that really shows how expensive drink is in Normway if they think England is cheap for booze...
