Wins over four 'heavyweight champions' - Oleg Maskaev, Hasim Rachman, Michael Moorer and John Ruiz - the latter two he starched in one round.
Went the distance with two more - Chris Byrd and Lennox Lewis, and was also part of a brutal twelve round war with the nutcase, Ike Ibeabuchi
His style is easy to figure out, so he probably will never hold a title.
Am I wrong?

gberg4 - you're telling me that John Ruiz is great?

iZ R - you disagree? It's a question, not a statement.
Name another heavyweight with similar credentials as Tua's.

jay r - did Rachman say that before or after Tua put him to sleep? I wonder what Ruiz and Moorer have to say on that subject.

This is a question. I do not favor Tua.

Guys, some interesting responses. I don't favor Tua - just keep 'em coming.

toughguy - I think Tua would have beaten everyone on your list except La Starza, Shavers and maybe Bonavena.

I have to disagree. The undisciplined Andrew Gollatta has to be the best never to hold a world title. He was robbed of two desicions getting a bad decision and then a draw with both John Ruiz and Chris Byrd due to his unpopularity. He dominated Riddick Bowe twice before getting disqualified. He knocked down Michael Grant twice but ended up quitting in the 10th. He may not have the heart and discipline of a boxer but I believe he had the talent. Just my opinion David Tua is up there too. Good question I will try to think of more to fit in this category.

I was thinking recent history I forgot about Earnie Shavers and other boxers of Ali's time.

Tua got beat handily by Ike Ibeabuchi, who did not win the title. He definitely ranks ahead of Tua.
There were a lot of good fighters in the 70's, like Jerry Quarry, Ron Lyle and Jimmy Young, who never won titles. Many of the great pre-Joe Louis black heavyweights, like Harry Willis and Bert Sugar favorite Sam Langford would also rank higher than Tua.

As we've discussed in the past in the answers forum the state of the Heavyweight division is so bad that I wouldn't consider Tua to be the best to never have won the title.

tua is constantly getting overrated. rachman even said that he wasnt in the top five when asked to rate tua's punching power compared to other heavyweights
most guys that fight him say the same thing...overrared punching power . what they more commonly say is the tua has a profound ability to "wear you out fast"

Disagree. He was one dimensional and had trouble with big, fast guys. He lacked stamina. He was a hard hitter but technically he had flaws.
