From a scientific point of view, the biological difference between chimps & humans is too great to allow for any offspring, let alone fertile ones. Homo sapiens, over their millions of years of evolution have simply eliminated those species closest to them (neanderthal man, cro magnon man.. ..) as these species competed with them for the same resources. Presumably these species could have produced fertile offspring with humans.
Hypothetically speaking if chimps & humans had fertile offspring that just would not change the Christian mindset.
You should realise that any religion survives on dogma & blind faith. If you are not capable of blind faith then you cannot be religious - simple.
Evolution is not just a theory. It is happening all the time in front of us. For example we have all been hearing of the new stain of multi drug resistant bacteria which causes TB. This is a live example of evolution by the TB bacilli which, through generations of exposure to TB drugs, has evolved into a bacilli with high resistance to TB drugs.
But anyone who does not believe in evolution will not accept this also.

sorry, I'm an atheist but that is a stupid question and shows you know as little about biology and evolution as the creationists who post here
While chimpanzees and humans share 97% of their DNA, that 3% is a crucial difference, they can't interbreed. One of the definitions of "species" is not being able to interbreed. Lions and tigers are much much more closely related, as are horses and donkeys, and they produce infertile offspring (ligers and mules.) NOT fertile ones.
The 97% shared DNA alone is evidence of the close relation, but xians don't buy that already. There is a not bad article in this weeks Time magazine for a light overview of the topic. Humans and chimps are thought to have diverged from a common ancestor about 6 million years ago.
Posting incorrect misinformation does not further the cause of rational thought.

wow, dude, you got a lot of answers!
I think that is some kind of weird fantasy life you have. *ahem*
Also, aside from that, I think someone made a movie about that in the seventies. It was really weird. I think they used a gorilla.
but don't think you're so original, after all, think about those characters in Greek mythology, and how they would have to become what they were. People didn't think very hard about what was compatible and what wasn't. DNA research kind of put a kibosh on that fantasy! I mean, Pan, the Minataur...think about it! Some kind of weird fantasy went on for that to happen.

I think the "Liger" had a huge amount of genetic problems and the last one died whithin the past 6 months. what you're proposing makes about as much sense as mating a chimpanzee with an ape, its not exactly the same thing even though they are close

Actually we are two totally different species at this point, and the exercise wouldn't prove anything anyway. DNA evidence is enough to prove the close relation... as well as having many analogous structures as well as social structure and behavior... but many people are not educated enough to fully understand the significance of those findings. As soon as the closed-minded Christians (because not all Christians are closed-minded about this topic, like the Pope) learn some more science and really understand the significance of the evidence laid before them, they will have no choice but to accept it. But, most of them remain ignorant of modern science, because it is not proper or they are taught to ignore it.
Evolution happens over many years and in small ways... humans and chimps digressed a long time ago, and we are not similar enough to interbreed anymore.

My first girlfriend looked like a chimp.
The DNA match up is only 99%, a human cannot get a chimp pregnant.

If it should happen by invieto fertilization the offspring would most likely be infertile(sterile). This is what happens in nature. look at the mating of a horse and a donkey.

I think more compelling evidence than this could be found, but people still believe what they want to believe and nothing else. Chimps? Some people still don't believe they are related to other people. One thing at a time, please.

Pointless. This would not mean anything. It would be more like getting a real distant cousin knocked up. not the production of a common ancestor.
