You can not get someone drunk nor get them sober. Al-anon will give you the tools to develop coping skills that will benefit you, your family and the alcoholic. It is an invaluable tool to help understand and deal with all situations. This is the answer that you have looked and hoped to find. Keep going back and know that there is an answer and you are at the right place. Good luck!

In some ways, Al-anon is even creepier than AA.
There is no such thing as the disease of co-dependency. If there was, how is adopting a lame set of religious beliefs supposed to cure you? Oh, that's right, it doesn't, it only grants you a daily reprieve; you have to hang on "one day at a time", same as for the alcoholics in AA.
All Al-anon does is create more Al-anon members, it doesn't accomplish anything. You feel like you should be doing something for the alcoholic in your life, but Al-anon tells you you're powerless and that it's up to the alcoholic, but in order to feel better about not being able to do anything you need to adopt their set of religious beliefs.

I went to AL-Anon when I was with my ex husband and it helped a great deal ! I learnt a lot about myself and the alcoholic ,my husband at the time ,it did not save my marriage but it helped me see clearly so I left him for the right reasons and not just because I was desperate.but I would take what helps you and leave the rest as some members are not healthy themselves and so not always the best at helping you .some members at the group I was in believed that your job is to stay with the alcoholic and that's not true ,your job is to be a healthy happy person and if that can includes staying then great but I found it imposable to stay and be healthy .A lot of members are there because of their parents and that's important to work on as your past can shape your future if you let it .good luck ,take it with an open mind and you will meet some great people and some not so great but you will learn

A boyfriend of mine went to the meetings. It took getting his license to be taken away from him, jail time, hospital time, looking old and not holding jobs to finally take the meetings seriously. He could only drive with that 'thing' in his car(had to breath into it before the car could start)so life was not good and was tired of the trouble with the law so he finally stopped drinking and went to every meeting every week. You will see others still not taking it seriously and those are the ones you stay away from and great for him....he has been sober for over 3 years....i hope that you don't go through all the pain before you take things seriously at the Al Anon meetings. Stick with it and believe in yourself because you are the one that has to do it for yourself. Don't tell anyone that you need their help to stop the drinking...it is a hard journey but you will do it. Life is Good...live it Good...good wishes to you. Stick with it...just one more thing, keep away, far far away from your drinking partners, friends that helped you get drunk each and everyday...please
