Make it a Halloween Day. Start with a special breakfast everyone likes -- no need for a theme for that, but try to make something you don't have every day. At our house, it's usually pancakes and bacon. On very rare, extra-special days, we have ice-cream for breakfast.

Art: draw pictures, make construction paper cut-outs, make those construction paper chains with orange and black papers only and string them along the windows..

Food: buy some sugar cookie dough at the grocery and let the kids roll it out and cut out bats and cats and whatever else catches their fancy. Bake and let them decorate with store bought frosting and that decorator frosting that comes in tubes.

Read: Look through your picture books and story books and choose one you can read aloud to the kids. Let them draw or play with little quiet toys (Duplos or Legos are good) while they listen, if they get fidgety.

Play: Let them use lengths of fabric and anything else you can come up with to make costumes. Don't worry, the kids will take over and use their imaginations, hopefully to play for a long time. These do not have to be costumes like you'd buy in a store.

Just put out a bunch of stuff and the kids will figure out what to do with it.

Shop: If you have a dollar store nearby, you can give each child $1 or $2 to spend on something.

The baby won't be able to participate much, but the toddler and others will.

The 11 year old can be a great source for brainstorming ideas.

At some point during the day, have a quiet hour during which everyone retires to their bedrooms for a nap or to play quietly and alone, so you can have a break.

I would get things ready, to make little projects. And supervise them. Get yard, cut them into strips, and have the older ones tie them together to make a necklace. Paper cups, paper plates are good for coloring and painting. Make cookies or pancakes with them. Make a big collage of pets, favorite foods from magazines. Have them do cleaning chores in-between the fun stuff. Sing and dance to Disney songs and movies.
