Is that true? She just recently told me that and said she heard from some Afghan Tv show. She says that men peeing while standing up is very bad (I mean besides the obvious about hit or miss.

Is this in the Koran? I want some real facts about this please. My mom is very gullible and unfortunetly she seems to believe many things she hears on t.v.

Whats so nasty about men standing up while they pee?

They have plenty of urinals in restrooms. There's nothing wrong with that.

Thanks for the insight haroundb!

Although I actually heard from mythbusters, that the toilet seat is one of the cleaniest places i the house! Not saying I fully believe that, its up in the air for me. I'll research it online.

Men in Islam generally sit down on the toilet to pee so that the urine does not splash back on their clothes. When the clothes are impure from urine, they can not perform their prayers in those close. By sitting down, all of the urine is expelled in a way that it doesn't splash back. Also, there is a vessel near the toilet which is used to pour clean water over the privates to clean it of any impurities. This is called Astanja. Finally, if one judges the toilet is not clean or there is no place to sit... then peeing which standing is perfectly fine. One can wash later when it is comfortable to do so.

I live in the middle east and have never heard anything about this. Whether it is true or not should have no bearing! Why does it matter how men pee in Islam? I sincerely doubt that there is a special place in the Quran about "how to appropriately pee". I have seen foot prints on the toilets here. Some of the less fortunate and unwealthy don't even understand the concept OF a toilet, so why would they sit on it?
All in all, i think it is probably more a matter of preference than it is an issue of religion. I doubt it is part of their religious beliefs.

No it is not in Quran, but we are advised by our Prophet Mohammed Peace Be Upon Him to avoid anything that will lead to un-cleanness and may cause filth (hit or miss). Actually Islam advises you to do everything good and avoid anything bad, just some people do exaggerate to name it forbidden while in Islam it is not. sometimes I do it standing where i find the toilet is so much dirty to sit on, thought this doesn't make me out of the correct path, actually I am doing the correct thing that Islam advised me to do which is to "keep clean"!
