It's not right to put abortion and miscarriage together, particularly in this.
Most women who have an abortion refer to a "fetus" rather than a "child", and they don't consider themselves a mother.
Miscarriages are kind of a grey area, and I don't know for sure. I wouldn't refer to the woman as a "mother" most of the time, but it's more likely they'll acknowledge the pregnancy, and they can feel a deep connection to a baby, even a first-trimester fetus.
I know you didn't include it, but women who give birth to a stillborn is considered a mother. They are encouraged to hold the baby, name it, dress it, take pictures of it, and mourn just like they would a child born alive who died. When they refer to their children, they'll include the dead child (I had a friend who had a stillborn baby, and she always said she had two children: her older daughter, and her baby in Heaven).
It's a touchy subject, especially in the area of miscarriages, so use tact when bringing it up.

Just because someone gives birth it does not mean she is a mother. A mother is a female of any species who cares for and nurtures young creatures of the same species. If a woman adopts a child, she is its mother despite the fact that she did not give birth. If the baby was miscarried or aborted, then the woman is definitely not a mother! Basically she is a female who is capable of reproduction. That's all.

If she had an abortion I'd say definitely not because that's voluntary. Miscarriage is sort of a gray area. I had 3 miscarriages while trying to have my last child and that was absolutely heart wrenching. I think losing a baby that she already loved should still qualify her as a mother. To say otherwise would belittle her loss.

I started out by saying no but then I realised that a woman who gives birth to a stillborn child of 20 weeks gestation or more would still consider herself to be a mother. I guess a mother is a woman who nurtures a child; physically; spiritually; emotionally etc. You can begin to do that even before the baby is born.
An interesting thing to wonder.

She is so not a mother. She's more like a murderer. Not that I'm being judgemental. But I'm just basing from what you just stated, if she committed abortion. You become a mother if you have done the duties and responsibilities and obligations of a mother. If you haven't done any of those, then NO, You're Not Yet A Mother.

A Mother is the one who is there for you when you are happy, sad, scared, sick, lonely. It is not the act of giving birth that makes one a mother, it is the things you do and say.

A woman who miscarried is a mother. A woman who aborted her fetus is not a mother.
