It needs to suit its location.

A rural pub, urban pub, or city pub all have different requirements.

Our village pub has been turned nito a £50/head resturant. Not suited to the area aso all the custom comes in, rather than being from the village.

A rural pub shoudl have good character, lots of seating, seperate areas, basic food and good beer/hosts.

An urban pub, in a housing estate needs to be functional, serve good basic stuff and have good hosts.

A city pub needs to have limited seating, faster service, and not so loud background music. Apparently, they also need bouncers, fights outside, a meat market inside and sick in the loos.

I hate that most places play music so loud that conversation is near impossible. When they play mtv its even worse because you see the video of one song but your listening to the music of another.

My ideal pub would have soft background music, no tv, dart board and a pool table and a plenty of waiting staff. Regular pub quizzes, karaoke nights and performers; I know that's not uncommon but i want to show my appreciation.

There should be a good variety of alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks. If you're going to have a carpark, you need to cater for tee-totallers.

Hmmm, Caitlan Morans hit it on the nose I think. The only thing I'd add is the staff....longterm/oldtimers whatever....theres nothing worse then going down to your comfy old local and there is a new inept 'doesn't know your drink' staff member standing there looking pretty but doing very little else.

I agree with xenobyte here. Pubs are getting way too trendy in some aspects, and the tv's have to go! Just make it cosy warm and welcoming.

One that is like the old style, typical village local, one that doesn't have a restaurant attached, one that only serves drink and bar snacks.
