You should have left him home alone ages ago. You're going to have extreme problems with separation anxiety now. The best thing to do is put him outside with a radio playing so that he seems to think that someone is there and leave him.

All depends on the dog. You could start letting him out when your at home during the night and for short stays during the day. Then make sure that the dog has toys and other things to keep him busy during the day. I have three and they stay out a lot and have full run of the house and yard and don't get into trouble while I'm away because they are only home a short time alone. (we have a doggie door, it's great!) They have lots of toys and chew toys.
Good Luck. I have also had dogs that I always put in the crate while I was going and they didn't seem to mind going to the crate while we were gone. At that time we were gone longer and more offen. The dogs didn't mind and were used to it and did find. We gave them lots of attention and play time while we were home.

My dog was about 2 and a half, just kept her in the crate for 2 or 3 months. One day she didn't go in the crate anymore. She was really good, very quiet. But one yr old, is quite young and puppish. I would wait, exercise helps a lot. Check out Cesar Millan.

we started leaving out dogs out while we were gone for small times first , like a trip to get food or the video store, then gradually longer and at night. we gave ours plenty to play with and made sure there was nothing for them to destroy while they were out and left the TV on, and def. let them out right before you leave and praise them when you get back. we had no problems with our puppies we had 2 in one year, and about 6 months they were ok, they knew not to chew on stuff and go in the house while we were home so when we werent home, they didnt notice a difference.

When do you start putting dog into crate???

i never put dogs n crate.
they wiil like human children get into things.
you have to train them. if you dont want him allover the house
when not at home, put him on poarch if you have one.
he will never learn if in a crate.
it is like a punishment to him, or her. so when he is let out
(most ) will be trying to get all your attention, or to find away to
please you.
