First of all you need to be congratulated for what you have already achieved. Is there in your area a work experience program, where you can gain some experience and also put yourself out in the workplace, to be seen by prospective employers? Other than that how about until you find employment if you look for someone doing Pro bono work, who would love some assistance working with disadvantaged people. Good luck!...

First, I would like to say congrats on getting your GED. You obviously have the determination it takes to go further in life.

However, with three kids you should take into account how available you will for working. Many fields within CJ are not only full-time but they're on-call positions. This means at any given time, you must be able to attend to whatever requires your attention.

Then there is the state-required training that happens yearly. Much of this training takes place outside of the county.

This offers a wide array of positions within the CJ field. There is specialized training that takes place in order to participate in most, if not all, of those positions.

In all seriousness, I suggest you check out a HMG (Help Me Grow) program as a Home Visitor. This allows you to create your own hours, how many hours you want to work (some weeks can be 45+ hours, others you can work 12 or 6).

Help Me Grow is a service for families with children 0-3 and who financially qualify for this program. They offer assessments for disorders, disabilities, and behavioral problems. As a home visitor, you will not be doing many assessments. You will be doing home visitation and help the families with their basic needs.

You'll learn many resources within your area (the PRC was a resource in our area that would fix cars for all caregivers attending school/college; Transitional Housing happened through the Homeless shelter. They paid 1/3rd of deposit and rent, freely, for up to 3 years).

Also, it's a good idea to check out http://www.freecycle.com for your area.

Returning to the HMG program: you will do weekly visits to each family for as long as they live within your area/until they age out (at 3 years of age). Mileage is paid. Office hours (which you select) is also paid. You're paid either per family or per hour you spend with the family (varies by area).

Many of the programs offer excellent health benefits like 401, profit-sharing, dental, vision, and medical.

It requires no extra schooling beyond GED or high school diploma.

And often, the HMG system encourages Home Visitors to take their children along to clients' houses so no babysitter is required.

I'm sorry I can"t help you with your question. I just wanted to give you another alternative. Try your local community college. Most offer courses in the area your looking. Best of everything to you. You show a lot of moxie. Keep on the path you've chosen.

no idea.
I kind of fell into my job, but I never planned it, so it surprised me.
