First you have to ask what is the source of the memory loss. Drugs? Alcohol? or age as in Alzheimer's disease. If it is from drug and alcohol use, you need to stop. There is no known cure for Alzheimer. The most positive might be calorie restriction -- eat about a third the amount of an American diet.

If you want to take a dietary supplement for the brain, stay away from traditional vitamin since they are expensive and it does nothing to your brain. Try lecithin. You can buy this in bulk in health food stores. Lecithin is derived from soybean and is found in egg yolk. Why lecithin? It is rich in choline, a brain neurotransmitter. It is also rich in inositol, which is good for a strong heart. It also contains lots of phosphates. This is an emulsifier which helps transport fat away.

There is ginko biloba. I love just looking at a ginko tree. Each leaf is a fan that flutters in the wind. They were very abundant in the time of the dinosaurs. Now they don't grow in the wild anymore. The Chinese have known and eaten the fruits from the nuts of ginko biloba for ages. Ginko biloba extract has been shown to be a stimulant to brain activity.

The herbs Brahmi, Ginseng, Gingko Biloba, Blue Cohosh, Anise.

Drink plenty of water and eat a good balanced diet.
There is evidence to show that increasing fish and fish oils in the diet greatly improve memory also. Vitamin B Complex and an amino acid complex help greatly also. Try to get your protein from nuts, grains, legumes, brewer's yeast, brown rice, millet, nuts, soy, instead of red meats.

Avoid refined sugary and fatty foods, these damage the brain. Get plenty of rest and sleep, at least the recommended 8 hours.

Take almonds,raisins,honey,dates and also pistachios.
They are good for brains.

Taking vitamin b complex and folic acid

Ginkgo supplements helps improve short term memory, improves the transmission of nerve signals, and increases blood flow to the brain. There are other nutrients such as Choline that help the neurotransmitter in the brain. Having a balance and proper Nutritional diet can help your brain and all parts of your body. Nutritional Supplements are now readily available today for almost anything. But take caution, most over the counter consumer products are not adequate enough. Check out Usana Health Science, they provide information and products for optimal health.

There is so much more I need to know about you in order to be helpful. There are so many things that can cause your problems. If you are a young person I am inclined to think your problem is emotional. If you are older it is probably due to physical changes that occur in the aging process. Which category do you fall into? In a young person just getting more sleep usually solves the problem and finding a solution to any emotional problems that may be experienced. For an older person going on a low sugar, low bad fat diet and getting more exercise could be corrective alone. However there are supplements that will help, so maybe you should ask the question for that at another time if that is what you want to know.

You need to exercise your brain more. Pills aren't really the answer. It's like your body, if its out of shape (which definitely happens as ppl get older), the only way to really get it back into shape is exercise. Same thing with the brain. Play some Soduku or read aloud. I know the Nintendo DS has a game called "Brain Age". Ppl say it seems to work for declining memory functions.
