For the first 12 hours, do not put any type of ointment of it. Keep ice on it until the pain goes away, which will be several hours depending on how bad of a burn it is. Placing ointments on burns contains the heat in the skin causing it to burn deeper. Treat discomfort with something like tylenol or motrin. Once the pain has stopped, put some type of antibiotic ointment on it and cover with clean gauze. After a few weeks, if a scar should appear, apply mederma cream and the scar will go away. You can buy the cream at any pharmacy without a prescription. If the burn is 2-3 inches in diameter or larger on the hands, feet, face, groin or buttocks, or over any major joint, seek immediate medical attention.

running it under cold water was correct. you can also run ice cubes over the burn to help soothe it.

apply a thin layer of aloe vera gel to the burn-you can put it in the fridge first if you want to-sometimes the cold feels good when applying it.

not sure how old your daughter is but motrin works better for pain than tylenol b/c it also has an anti-inflammatory in it to also reduce swelling.

if she is going to be wearing long sleeves that might irritate it-you can cover it with a couple of gauze squares to prevent the fabric from rubbing against the burn and irritating it

hope she feels better soon

I do not feel flag burning is a large deal. It is quite insulting sure.. however no person has the proper to inform any one else to not do it. Also... Why is these kind of extremely-nationalist idiots constantly get mad while any one burns a f*cking flag or sits throughout the countrywide anthem however flip a blind I to the entire bullsh*t this nation pulls all over the world and inside it is possess borders?... Maybe the fellow who burns a flag is doing to be able to factor folks's awareness to matters that are meant to be corrected. As difficult because it might be for those media cradled morons to think, a few folks get up in morning and rejoice being human and being alive, now not being american... and whilst you feel like that you just admire ALL of humanity for what it's and now not for folks's nationality..... so in case your executive abuses it is possess folks or foreigners and you do not love it, then sure... burn the flag To all people who recounted squaddies who died for our freedom. I fairly do suppose for the warriors who've given their lives pondering they had been protecting the U.S. , however their deaths don't seem to be a intent for me to fake that the U.S. is a utopia with a superb executive. It's honestly the reverse... while folks DIED for whatever to be a distinctive method and long run generations of politians trample their efforts, then you definately allow be identified in ANY method viable.

don't load it up with oil (petroleum jelly, greasy lotion, etc.) especially if it got a blister.
the best thing to do is to apply a light bandage, and try and let it heal itself, but it's more than likely in a spot that will be bumped and rubbed.
(so leaving it alone until it's healed wont happen)
the most important thing to remember is: avoid an infection! if you absolutely have to, drain the blister, make sure that you put a bandage on the wound, and some antibacterial ointment.
if you don't have to pop it--don't, your body made a natural cover for it (the blister)
if there isn't a blister, and it's just a purple mark, then it should be OK to put lotion on it so it doesn't feel and get more dried out. a cool cloth will make it feel better too.

if it's a minor burn that looks like sunburn, cool it with cool water then keep it clean and dry, also an aloe vera gel will help ease the pain alot too. if it gets blisters, don't pop them, keep the burn covered and they will pop on their own, clean the wound several times a day and air it out occasionally to help it heal. if it's worse than that, go the er or call your doctor. good luck!

You did the right thing in running her arm under water, it sounds as if she has a 1st degree burn, which is a minor burn but painfull.

If you have any concerns take her to see your doctor, if it blisters you will need to go to your doctor immediately.

she needs to be seen by a medical professional because there are just too many questions about the burn that are unanswered. one important thing to know is burns are very susceptible to infection. scarring is another issue.
