the best answer for this question is to meet with her parents and discuss the issue then talk with your parents again . but i would be careful in pursuing a relationship with a minor good or bad intentions these day hope you find a good resolution

I think your parents are probably just worried, as this is a very different time than when they were your age (I'm probably close to their age). Personally I see no problem with you wanting to date a 16 year old- there's only 2 yrs difference in your ages. However, at age 18 you are considered an adult, and as an adult you would be treated as an adult by any law enforcement agency. The girl is legally a minor. You would have to treat her & the relationship with the utmost respect. Statutory rape is a serious offence & the law considers it so even if she consents. Legally speaking she cannot offer an 'informed' consent because she is a minor, no matter how mature she may be. You say you don't want a sexual relationship at this time- that's a good thing. Girls love romance- flowers, dinner, a walk in the park etc. If you really care for her, you can keep to those types of things for the next 2 years & see where it goes. Both of you will be happier in the long run & will develope a respectful relationship & friendship with each other. If it's meant to be, it will be.

Yes, go for it! I remember being a senior in high school and liking a sophomore, but I did nothing about it because I was afraid she was too young.

Pursue it. There is usually a couple of years' difference between a boyfriend/girlfriend, husband/wife anyway. If you don't try it, then you will regret it, I am still kicking myself in the a$$ for not going after younger girls and that was 20 years ago.

As for your parents, don't let them decide for you, it's only a two year difference, and in a year or two, it will be fine.

If you like her, and she likes you, what's the problem? You
said the two of you have talked to each other for 3 years, and
you care for her. If you just want a relationship, and she's for
it, why not? I think you should pursue it before some other guy
wants to date her.

you absolutely should. Girls mature quicker than boys so you two are probably cronologically the same age. Go for it!
