I grew up believing that there were 5 races: white, black, brown , red and yellow. And that hispanics were brown.

The 5 races theory was taught in the early part of the century. SInce then, there had been discoveries that checked DNAs, ang genetic arrangements. To this day, there is a project called the human genome where all the genetic structures of humankind are catalogued.
I guess it is fuzzy and not so clear now. We all share some common genes and there are differences in pigment formation.
Government documents still list the following to ask one for ethnic background 1) Caucasian 2) Asian 3) Black 4) Hispanic

Those are stupid terms, I've always hated using dumb colors of the rainbow to describe population groups and/or ethnic groups, if people from Mexico are the descendants of the Aztecs (which most are Not) and Aztecs are native American then why not use the dumb term red. So darker Hindi Indians are what Black??
Being a Hispanic U.S. citizen with cousins that are blond, blue eyes and cousins that are dark and short, I've learn one thing. In the United States of America there are two types of people, those that look Nordic and those that don't, good luck climbing up the corporate ladder if you don't have the Nordic look.

Hispanic is a cultural/linguistic term, and is neither a race nor an ethnicity; that being suggested, Zimmerman is obviously Mestizo (mixed). As is Jennifer Lopez. upload: permit me basically upload, the reality he of course has indigenous ancestry is basically beside the point; ultimately, the enormous majority of human beings from Latin usa (which incorporates the final public of Mestizos) *will* be seen White; the reality Zimmerman is already suggested to be so shows we are taking steps in that course, already (plus, he - like over a million/2 of Latin individuals - is probably indexed as such on the Census). As i've got suggested formerly, the term White in usa is basically a social build, and is often increasing (because it did to contain Southern and eastern Europeans).

At one point in the US Hispanics were considered White by the Census Beurue. Then after Macarthyism (1930's I believe) He got tired of all Hispanics claiming white, and changed the whole catagory to Latino on the Census. Meaning other than Anglo reguardless of what u looked like. Then lately, came that word "Other" for people who are ashamed or confused or just don't want to get boxed in by color. By the way I am black but my skin tone is lighter that many whites w/ a tan. But whatever. Never saw too many Blacks that looked back in color and ain't never seen NO WHITES that looked white in color. (kind of a muddy sand maybe)

Being hispanic has nothing to do with your race, but with speaking Spanish. You can find hispanics that are white, black, brown, red and yellow. All you have to do to become a hispanic is to learn Spanish.

Many Spanish nationals are light-skinned and even blonde, from intermarriage with other Europeans. Mexicans, as a result of intermarriage with the Indians in Mexico and the U.SA. are more likely to be dark-haired.

We all need to appreciate that this is why people look a little different, even a lot different sometimes. We're STILL all related and ought to know how to get along better.

There is no such thing as Hispania, therefore Hispanic is null. Spanish - from Spain
Cuban - from Cuba
Puerto Rican (Boriqua) - from Puerto Rico
Mexican - The Spanish came to America raped a buffalo and created the mexicans.
