How does the air rush in so fast when those strings are pulled?

There is a cannister of CO2 (something similar to those in BB guns) that releases its gas when the trigger cord is pulled, thus inflating the vest. The automatic vests have a tablet that dissolves when immersed in water. When the tablet dissolves, the trigger is released to let out the compressed CO2.

Small cylinders of compressed gasses are attached to the life preserver. When the cord is pulled, the stopper that is holding the air in the cans is removed and the air escapes into the preserver, instantly blowing it up.

I believe they contain CO2 canisters that are activated when deployed.
