There are many factors.
One shall be absolutely sure that this 'friend' will not talk to others about your 'secrets' that you may share.

We have seen 'best of the best' friends fighting over some trivial issue. That is worrying.
If you are married, have trust in your spouse and treat each other like friends. You can confide in each other and have a great life and longer friendship.

If you are not married or do not want to have spouse as a friend, analyse a friend who can listen to your worries, suggest a solution and above all keep your information secret.

What i look for in a friend is
# listening to my problems
# Correct me if I am worng - in a way I like :-)
# Suggest solutions
# help me financially , if required - more materialistic
# stand by my side in all issues
# is able to meet personally at regular intervals.

I have my wife, as a friend. :-)

I like a friend that I can trust with anything, that doesn't judge me, but tells me when I look stupid or do something stupid. I want my friend to be honest with me, but not be rude. I want a friend that will support me and stick up for me. We can laugh about things for hours, and we can tell each other anything and everything. But that's best friend, just a friend would basically be someone nice, loyal, trustworthy, that kinda thing.

I like people who are down to earth,open minded,a person who accepts me,for just being me,not by what I may look like on the outside,or what money I may or may not have and some one who I have talk with,to have a laugh and a joke with.

A friend that is loyal, truthful and always willing to stand beside you when you screw up alot. I have many friends like that and it takes awhile to find them. have an open mind when it comes to finding that loyal friend.

I like a friend who doesn't compete with me and is her own wonderful person. I also must have honesty; someone who'll tell me I have something stuck in my teeth!
I'm lucky to have a few keeprs.

I like a friend who is trustworthy, never two-faced, spontaneous, fun, family oriented, fun, caring, truthful, etc... Most people are just acquaintances. I have very few people that I fully trust.

Somebody who will be there for me no matter what. When I am down she will bring me back up. Someone I can tell anything too and will not judge me but give me advice.
