Army?? Where are you going? When I went it was in the summer to Ft Benning and a dude in our platoon died of a heat stroke. Winters are probably better. they give you plenty of stuff to keep warm anyways...you'll bet beanies, sweats, glove etc for PT and winter uniforms and longjohns.

Not sure when anyone else on here was at Basic? I was in the U.S. Army. I went to Basic in March 1991. We went to the field for 7 days, it rained 4 out of 7 days. You will have a poncho and your tent but that is about it. We dug fox holes and they filled with water, we were still suppose to get in them. It was cold at night and warm in the day time. At night when it rained we got soaking wet. We peed behind trees and only had MRE's to eat for 6 days. The last day in the field we had a hot meal. I also hope you like to be dirty and stink. Cause I am a female and I didn't have a shower for a week. Talk about rank. lol If you don't like rain, snow etc. I think you better go in the summer time. In the field you aren't going to have a heater. Believe me.

Your health needs will be met. That includes keeping you warm enough to function properly. You'll spend most of your off-duty time in the barracks, which are heated. When it rains, you will train wearing proper foul weather gear. Battle does not cease when it starts to rain! You must learn to take proper care of yourself and your equipment in all sorts of weather. And you will - your drill instructors are the best in the world. They will not make it easy on you, but their goal is to see to it that you survive combat while your country's enemies do not.

selection one you should dress in layers. Base layer desirable and backside, thermal desirable and backside, do not deliver cotton hoodies deliver fleece or wool. deliver some pairs of socks yet i could purely propose one pair of underclothes (the only you positioned on there), an added fleece, and an added pair of pants (once you're feeling adventurous) so a ways as outfits bypass. of course deliver a parka, gloves, hat, etc. in case you do not have a 4 season tent i could deliver a 0 degree bag; in case you have a 4 season, a 20 degree bag, and dont prefer to spend the money on a sparkling less warm rated bag i'm useful you would be fantastic. Conversely, in case you do not have a 4 season tent or a 0 degreee bag you are able to %. up a fleece bag liner at any great save for like 15 dollars which you will positioned interior your bag. remember your drowsing pad. those concepts are based around marginal interest and sleep situations. in case you propose on backpacking into someplace, double up on your thermals and socks on the grounds which you would be getting sweaty and sweaty=moist... not a terrific mixture in iciness so which you will ought to alter once you give up to establish camp. additionally, deliver some whiskey. No it would not make you warmer, yet up here no one is going tenting interior the iciness with no little booze to lighten issues up. in spite of in case you like the iciness tenting outdoors in 20 degree climate has the tendency to make a individual depressing under the desirable situations. additionally some advice: once you bypass to mattress, positioned your water bottle interior the snow mouth first. The snow will insulate the water so which you dont awaken with a bottle of ice, and what ice does form will form on the backside of the bottle on the grounds that its the different way up subsequently not blocking off you from eating. once you're at a extreme elevation, do not underestimate how lots water you're able to need. Being up extreme interior the chilly dehydrates you exceptionally rapid. ultimately, by way of fact it variety of seems such as you will possibly not have a collection of adventure, spring for some mountain domicile nutrition. in case you do not understand precisely what you're in for, a terrific, great tasting, warmer than hell meal to look forward to continuously facilitates. once you're having a tough time and purely have a packet of ramen to look forward to, as a beginner, it may purely make issues extra stable. good success! i wish you have relaxing. i've got not been able to bypass tenting the previous 2 weeks so i'm jealous.

Helpful to know the service. Some spend more time outdoors than others.

But you are probably better off in the snow than the heat...depending on location too. Chicago might not be the place to be in February.

They do try to take care of their people though.
