Well water can be high in pH due to the leaching of chemicals from the minerals in the area and also sometimes the rock which the wells are constructed with or surrounded by. The chemicals often run into groundwater which feeds wells and also nearby streams.

Drinking water can be high due to the chemicals input at the water treatment plant that provides the area. Sometimes there is no other reason than what they have deemed an acceptable range for drinking water.

Often water bodies can be acidic due to high rain areas (CO2 in the air creates slightly acidic rain). If these water bodies are refined and sent out as drinking water then you could expect low pH levels.

Nutral water has pH=7. If pH is more than 7 then the water is alkaline or basic. The reason behind this may be due to the dissolution of minerals, or metal oxides which are generally basic in nature. Where as nonmetalic oxides are insoluble or are acidic in nature.

As Tim stated, no longer plenty on the extremely intense point of pH 9.5. i've got confidence it extremely is calcium/ alkalinity venture, and at the same time as the water would flavor ok, taking a bathtub or doing laundry with it may be a chore except you slipped an ion-exchanger into the relatives gadget.

High pH is more likely because of water flowing through limestone aquifers. Low pH=acidic (not a good sign if there are mines around).

well water has percolated down thru strata of soil, dissolving part of minerals presnt there-in. If the minerals dissolved are alkaline, the ph will be more.

Tap water at times is treated with alum/ alkaline salts

well it's not here, pure pH of 7 smooth, your water catchments probably all have acid factories on them or something

umm because the water is gross. It probably has a lot of nasty acidic liquids and isn't it reclaimed water??? I think it has a lot of minerals in it too.
