Just so you know, this question is not to bash liberals or Democrats.

I'm serious. I know you do have a sense of humor, or else Jon Stewart, Lewis Black, George Carlin, Robin Williams, and basically every great comedian would not exist.
I know you are tolerant, otherwise you would not be working so hard to promote peace and tolerance and equality between races, genders, and nationalities.
Therefore, I have to ask you, did I cross the line here?
I am a conservative and I asked a question about uniting the nation. So this whacko calling himself a liberal starts lambasting me for not being completely unbiased. Other liberals answered the question, and I even gave them a thumbs up even though I disagreed with some of them.
I really just wanted your comments. Which one of us actually tried to reach out to the other side of the aisle, in spite of past disagreements?

P.S. before you read my response to his attack, read his attack first. Otherwise it makes no sense at all.

Bless you Salem, and every person like you.

You are what I call a "moderate" liberal. You have liberal views, but you are open minded and tolerant of others, not an extremist like some.

I appreciate the civility and especially the open lines of communication.

And PS like I said, read the entry for "proud2b an american" first, otherwise even I admit, I come off sounding harsh towards him.

At least I didn't shout or cuss or any of that nonsense that I see on here all the time... you gotta give me credit for trying.

I am a Liberal and a Patriot. I love my country and I relish being able to add a dissenting opinion. My brother is a Born Again Christian and a retired Marine. We have debated things since we were kids. Each is entitled to his opinion. That is what makes America great.

This country has been run by thirds through it's entire history. One group is Conservative, one third is Liberal, and the rest are fence sitters. This third is what dertermines the current political mood. Back in the Revolution one third wanted liberty, one third wanted to remain loyal to the King, and the rest were fence sitters. The same was true during the Civil War. This will never change. That is why it takes a 2/3 majority to convict an impeached President. It is also why it takes that many states to approve a Constitutional Amendment. I hope that answers your question. I will defend yoor right to disagree with you and hope you will do the same for me. Peace, Brother.

Sometimes when you are having a bad day you take it out on others.....I think that that guy was having a wicked bad day and you got the brunt of it.....I had the same general problem a time or two myself....it happens.
I am a VERY liberal but OPEN MINDED voter. I like to hear BOTH sides before I make up my mind. I do not always follow "party lines" it is the candidate not the party that I vote for.
just my opinion

I am, but there are idiots on here that are not. I like to hear both sides of an issue before making a decision and I consider what others have to say. I have even changed my opinion after talking to my R friends. Sense of humor--oh yeah. Life is too short to take things seriously. Sorry for the idiots.

I am proud to be a liberal and Democrat. That said, I appreciate people from both sides of the political aisle who have a sense of humor and tact. I have met my share of humorless Dems/Libs who I agree with politically, but essentially can't stand because they take themselves way too seriously or are clueless when it comes to good, constructive dialogue.

Kudos to you for the question.....I've a handful of conservatives and/or Republicans whom I enjoy some nice exchanges with, even at our own expense....simply because these are folks who realize there are broader, more meaningful reasons to connect and not let politics define who is "good" and "bad" in this very divisive society.

*LOL*

My Goodness!! You sound awfully proud of yourself!! I wish I'd seen this thread before responding to your other thread again. Doesn't change anything though.

First, I never called myself a Liberal. I didn't call myself anything until your most recent response. My stating that to get a Liberal leaning individual to sincerely partake in a forum with you to address issues you probably shouldn't refer to them as "whacko libs". If you take that as a sign that I am Liberal then the mistake is yours. Surprise, surprise.

Not to be a stickler, but, I am not a him, I am a her. Not that it matters, I just like to make sure all the facts are correct.

Most Sincerely...
"The Whacko"

Views and opinions about political issues are often very personal to us. It is easy to become defensive because we feel threatened or hurt. I try not to discuss certain topics I am very passionate about unless the other person is respectful of my feelings as well as my viewpoints. If everyone tried to do this, there would be a lot less arguing.

Yes, I am Liberal/Democrat.

i actually answered the question you asked earlier today, and i hope you dont think my response was harsh. it is true that everyone is biased if they have an opinion. the problem seems to be that everyone feels their opinion is the only correct one. i am somewhat guilty of that myself. see, i was born with this thing called a "conscience", and it guides all my decisions. when i follow my conscience, my actions and opinions seem to be what is considered liberal. but i am sick of all the labels anyway.
edit:
thank you for the thoughtful questions. i must say, most americans actually do not think for themselves, they let the media tell them what to think. how many times have you heard, "i know its true because i read it in the newspaper"? i find that funny and a little sad. the problem is that the most powerful news outlet in america is the fox news channel, and they give an undeniably rightwing biased version of current events. people are like sheep and they do what bill o'reilly tells them to. refer to the answer above mine for an example of a sheep.
