Windows Media Player 10 is used to play and organize your music and much more.
It should come as an update to your operating system if you use Windows XP.
They do have a new version which is in Beta which is pretty nice and stable and good user interface, I would say load this and play with it for a few days.

If you want support for the very latest codecs then you should download. Likely you won't need to however since 9 supports most everything. If you're unsure about 10, just wait until the day that you need support for something only version 10 has and then upgrade. Waiting gives microsoft time to patch their code if there are any bugs. =)

Its part of Windows... just goto Start, then Programs. Windows Media Player 10 is the update to 9... once you run it, it will update itself.

If you play music on your computer, and do not use i-Tunes, you will need it. It comes with Windows. It is also useful if you download music that is not on i-Tunes.

Who cares? Everyone with a brain is buying a Mac. Once you do that, Windoze will be just a bad (but fading) memory.
