Joseph Smith sorry I wrote that in a hurry. I've read a lot of literature about him, and I've heard that from Mormons.

Joseph Smith..and I don't think that he was illiterate. He did a little better job than mo..Joseph incorporated a story book about the indians into his book and it makes better reading for a fiction book. Mohammads book is just a bunch of jibberish.. or random statements..

Muhammad (pbuh) did not write the Qur'an. The Surahs were revealed to him via the Angel Gabriel and his closest companions (and also one of his wives, Aisha) memorized them and recorded them. The Surahs were later compiled into a book after his demise so that his people would not forget his teachings... which are not very different from what you read in the Torah and Bible, true? That's because in the past God has sent other Prophets to tell them the message of Islam.. but the contents of these holy books were changed and distorted by people, therefore God sent another Prophet, Muhammad (pbuh), as a guidance and reminder of Islam, a religion that existed hundreds of years before his time.

It wasn't only the divine revelations (Surahs) that were recorded, but also his sayings (hadiths) and his ways of conduct (sunnahs) were written down.

The fact that he was illiterate doesn't make him special. Muslims highly respect Muhammad (pbuh) along with the rest of the Prophets (peace be upon them), but Muhammad was the last Messenger chosen and sent by God therefore he is regarded as special :)

It is called divine inspirations. If a genius or a scholar would write what they have written, how then could it be claimed to be the word of God? God surely have chosen the weak in order for man to know His strength. Much as He would chose someone who could tell what He is saying so that nobody will say it came from a genius that has the capability to invent.
Even Moses who was chosen complained that he cannot speak clearly because of speech defects. Jeremiah was also the same for he said he was only a child meaning lack the education to do what God was asking him to do.

*sigh* you people just don't get your facts right.
Anyway, yes he was illiterate.
His companions wrote the Message down.
Archangel Gabriel brings the Message to him and he hears and speaks the Message. Only he can hear but his companions can't. So he would say the Message as Gabriel tells him. His companions around him writes them down. After that, he would ask his companions to read it out loud to him to make sure they had written correctly.

I believe during the later parts, he learned how to read and write. (?)

Muhammed-pbuh was a son/nephew of the leader of Qureysh tribe. he was an orphan since childhood and was taken care of by his uncle, Abu Talib. he was known as the TRUSTWORTHY or Al-Amin in the whole of Arabia. at the age of 25, he was given a proposal of marraige from a widow named Khadijah-r.a trough his uncle. Muhammed-pbuh lead a very a good life as a good husband and father for 6 chuildren, all of whom he loved dearly.

Muhammed-pbuh would always meditate in privacy at the Mount Hira and was very intrigued by the purpose of life -- the very same way Abraham-pbuh was. at the age of 40, he received his first revelation from God through angel Gabriel-a.s. the Archangel said --

The Clot (Al-Alaq ) --surah96
In the name of Allah, Gracious, Merciful.1
1Proclaim in the name of your Lord who created
2Created man out of a clot of congealed blood:2
3Proclaim and your Lord is most bountiful
4He who taught by the pen.
5Taught man that which he knew not.

Muhammed-pbuh was an illetrate and the pagans were shocked to see how this man came down with such blazing poetry in a matter of hours. Muhammed's -pbuh words of his God were creating a wave of change in people esp poor of Arabia. the Pagans were ready to give Muhammed-pbuh everything from leadership to wealth through his uncle Abu Talib-- but he declined. Muhammed-pbuh replied --

"O Uncle! if the give me the sun in my right hand and moon in my left and all the wealth right under my feet, i would not defer from the path os God and spreading His word -- until God wants me to or until i die in the process of spreading His message." Muhammed-pbuh was an illiterate and initially due to fear of death all of the Sahabas -- companions , recited the Qu'ran in private. but then when the Pagans started torturing the slaves and poor and needy and finally decide to kill Muhammed-pbuh-- they had to migrate to Yathrib now Medina.

all his life he received revelations and with 23 years of his prophethood, the Qu'ran was complete in these years. then they compiled the Qu'ran.

well do you think Qu'ran can be written by man?. now all english translations are mere translations of the meaning itself. they are not direct translations. God knew that people will distort the message of the Holy Books just like how Zabur, Torah, Injil-Bible were lost with time, and Qu'ran doesnt suffer that fate. u know that there had been many additions, deletions, rejections and even ordered destruction of Holy Books before Qu'ran but Qu'ran is the only book that no one had changed with time.

Muslims, and Jews, have faith God is merciful to those that repent. Muslims have faith Jesus is the Messiah of the Jews on my own, sent to teach the Jews from evil and rejected by potential of them. From a Muslim point of view, because of the fact the Jews have rejected their Messiah they're rejected by potential of God and are as animals earlier the only actual God of all issues. From a Christian point of view Jesus is the Messiah, the actual God and King, foretold in Isaiah, rejected by potential of the Jews who spreads the Torah to the Gentiles. for their blasphemy against the Messiah God destroys Israel, yet, at last relents, forgives the Jews and provides them back their place of beginning. Gee, the regulation, the Torah, Exodus, Leviticus, Deuteronomy and Numbers are contained in the Bible, allotted to Christians a minimum of two hundred years earlier Mohammad. Israel is destroyed for close to 2 thousand years and is rebuilt right this moment. In Isaiah we learn that there is not any savior different than God and that a King would be born of a "Virtuous and single youthful lady", deliver salvation to the persons. on condition that in easy terms God can deliver salvation and since the actual King is God (1st Samuel) then the King born of the "Virtuous and single youthful lady" would desire to be God. isn't a "virtuous and single youthful lady" a virgin, in basic terms checking right here because of the fact some people seem to think of it isn't the case and so as that they seem to think of Isaiah lied while he suggested in easy terms God ought to deliver salvation or that Isaiah and Zachariah lied while they suggested the King could deliver salvation, or that Samuel lied while he informed the persons "God develop into your King" or in line with risk God lied while he suggested "the persons have rejected me by potential of soliciting for a individual to be their king." in line with risk the Jewish people and the Muslims can decide who they think of is mendacity right here on condition that Christians have faith they have been all telling the certainty.

Mohammad did not write the Quran. During his time, it was all verbal narrations.
The Quran was written at a later time. According to what someone remembered. On top of that, the muslim faith has different schools of thoughts based on different interpretations of the consolidated sayings of Mohammad, i.e. the Quran.
