The military might be the right choice for some people and not others. I think that being in the military helped me and it has helped my son. Overall; being in the military sucks, but it can be good for some people. A young person that hasn’t set a clear course (Isn’t ready for college or career) can mature quickly in the service and maybe pick up a trade along the way. Some people learn self discipline and how to get along in high pressure complex situations. It also has full benefits, special training, education and tuition reimbursement programs, enlistment bonuses, as well as, early retirement programs. It can be good for one tour or a career, but it’s not for everyone.

Military choices are tough. It depends on you. Do you like taking orders. The Navy is okay. The Marines tend to take care of each other. They seem to stick together more after they get out. You should learn more about the different branches of the military.
That way you can make a more intelligent decision

Your decision should be dependent on how old you are and what other options are available in your life. Forget going reserve or National Guard just to try it out. If you enlist, even if it is only for a two year period of time, the fine print says the military owns 8 years of your life. National Guard and Reservists are deployed as much as, if not more than active duty. If you are smart, young, and have a chance at life, do not lock yourself into an eight year contract with the military. Leave that for people like me who burned up all of our other options, and don't have anything left.

Maybe you should ask other people who have been in the military or navy before. They might tell you their experiences about militaries and navies. Then it's your own decision to join or not, and you have to responsible for your own choice as well.

It's just depends what you want to do. Are you using it to get money for school or for the experience. Marines are good at what they do. Ssince, your a woman you wouldn't be in the front lines you would be stationed far from the action. I'm in the Navy, I'm working on my masters now while on active duty. I finished my bachelors in 5 years. it took some time and the Navy paid for all of it. It's what you make of it, how motivated are you and following your goals.

best choice I never made, I got out of high school with nothing no ambition, no edication, I mean nothing it was 1979 and jimmy carter was president unemployment was about 18%, Intrest rates were 20% the economy was stagnent there were no jobs. I was determined to do something but I was foolish and let my parents talk me out of joining the army. I'm doing ok now but I still regret it. Good luck what ever you decide.

It has to be what you want. Think about the future down the road, do you want that then? I won't tell whether or not to join, only because that is honestly your choice. Heck, even ignore my name, because I don't want to tell you what to do. Keep in mind though the options you are looking at are going to be tough, though I'm sure you already knew that. So whatever you do, make sure it's what you want and I wish you the best. God Bless!

I feel the same thing.. But right now no...

Just see how things turn out if your 13 like me... If you think its a War worth fighting or you can trust your life to the government then go ahead...

But see how things turn out.. And ask your self why do you want to join.. and what are your goal... What are your other options (scientist, park ranger, teacher, doctor, law enforcement.. etc)....

And most importantly, are you ready for war and its consenquences at any time,, any moment in your military life?

It is a great choice. It is a 4 year committment not a life time. When you get out, if you ar smart you will have the GI Bill. While you are in, you can get a great education and meet a lot of people.

My son, who was the original anti-honor student is in the Navy, he is very happy. They straightened him out, in fact on Tuesday, he is taking his SATs and the Navy is paying, not him, not me. No student loans.

It is a great opportunity.

Hell NO! If you go to the navy youre wasting your time. Pay for your own collage. You waste like 5 years in the navy then 2-4 years in collage. Im a Sophmore and i already know that life is too short. You waste like 20 years in school dont waste 5 more for something you can do yourself.
