FIRST: You will need a medical degree

To get that in Australia you can either apply to an undergraduate course which will take you straight from year 12 or to do the postgraduate courses for which you need some other ("premed") degree.

In USA I believe that all your universities require a pre-med tertiary course.

Once you have that you will need to do your internship. This varies from country to country but in Australia is 1 year. In some countries you make your applications and choose your internship to stream you towards your goal already, but in Australia our internship is general: 1 term of medicine, 1 term of surgery, 1 term of nights/relieving/emergency and 1 term of something else - the people keen on paediatrics use this to do a term of paediatrics so as to meet and greet and have their faces and names known (hence this is a hotly contested position there are only 4 terms of paeds intern and a ton of eager applicants).

Once you have done your internship the Royal Australasian College of Paediatrics allows you to apply as a resident. Then you do your basic and advanced training through the college.

I don't know how it goes in the USA.

You have to have a premed course at University that is specified.
You have to get into the Med School. You have to last there over 4 years and then get into your specialty if it is available where you go to schoo.
Going to one medical college is a good choice, but it may limit you on where else you can go.
