Jesus preached from a place of total pacifism. His actual apotheosis was achieved by total submission to the will of His Father: unto Death. And as Christians, we are called to live in 'Imitation of Christ'.
On an important level, how can the Islamic and Christian ideologies co-exist, if Islam will allow for violence, even if in self-defence? Both faiths have numerous examples of people abusing the codes of life and respect their founders have laid down: what I'm asking is not what their followers have done or said.

Compare the texts...the Bible and the Koran. It's a clinical, academic question. Are the ideologies fundamentally incompatible? It's becoming very annoying having to wade through this amount of garbage to find a decent answer.

Any religion that denies that Jesus is the Son of God who was born of a virgin who lived a sin free life and then allowed himself to be crucified on a cross to cancel our sin debt and then rose on the third day to be seated at the right hand of his Father is incompatible with the Christian faith. Different doctrines on the roles of governments and believers when it comes to things like war and dying for the faith are secondary issues.

Say: He is Allah, the One and Only!
Allah, the Eternal, Absolute;
He begetteth not nor is He begotten.
And there is none like unto Him.
The problem is that most Christians make this association with God that he has a son, Jesus. This is pure blasphemy against God's divinity and glory. He is beyond all human imagination and only his 99 attributes help us further understand his mystery. He has no physical form, no statue, no picture; he is One; unknown. Islam is submission to God's will. All people are born sinless, and innocent (unlike in Christianity with the original sin). Straying from Allah's will is combatting your inner voice. We know God exists, He speaks of peace and good terms with all, but of course when triggered you have to stick up for what you believe in. I see alot of people taking verses out of context. If we were so violent why are people constantly converting (80% women mind you). In Christianity, women can't speak in church, man is the head of woman, women are wicked, you have original sin, and Jesus says "I did not come here to spread peace but a sword." Yoou'd be surprised the things you'd find in the Bible; that is constantly tampered with through time. Muslims BELIEVE in the original Injeel (bible) an Taurat (Torah) but they only lead to the ultimate truth (Quran). So we are basically the descendants of former religions that have evolved to Islam. I see you've made it past Judaism to Christianity, but you are still one step away from achieving ultimate truth. You will be welcomed as a brother/sister in Islam and finally find peace. But even if you remain Christian, we must respect you because as submitters we must unite:

[2:62] Surely, those who believe, those who are Jewish, the Christians, and the converts; anyone who (1) believes in GOD, and (2) believes in the Last Day, and (3) leads a righteous life, will receive their recompense from their Lord. They have nothing to fear, nor will they grieve.
You appeared wiser when you said "was achieved by total submission to the will" because it is stating that man must trangress the content of his own happiness and seek higher pleasure (of God). This is submission. This is Islam. Let us at least establish belief in God. Peace be unto you.

I can only speak from my experience I am a third generation american and I am a muslim. I lived in America as a minority all my life and except for a few circumstances I ,my family and possibly millions of others have lived peacefully together.Also, I am originally Palestinian and what many might not realise is that in Palestine the palestinian muslims and the palestinian christians not only are they peacefully co-excisting but they are constantly supporting eachother and even marrying eachother.P.S.My grandmother is christian.
Also their are allot of christians peacefully living in the Gulf eg(UAE,Qatar,Bahrain,Kuwait) they are free to practice and are free to wear what they please regardless of the stereotypes.I know that their are allot of places which have problems and are often magnified by the media. Although they might not always see eye to eye they can accept eachothers differences and co excist peacefully and I am proof of that.

can 2 idiots ever see eye to eye? both kill in the name of god. religion is a power struggle for the mind and so called soul and ultimately your pocket book. power has many masters and even more followers. I choose what is right for me and for the good for the ones around me, not for some guy in rome or middle east that talks to someone or thing that doesn't exist for me. open your mind and see beyond what you have been told, see the world again for the first time. the jews killed for real estate and still are so are the muslims, power over a piece of land and minds somethings haven't changed. War is a form of power for the rich get richer making bombs and weapons and the rich keep making and buying and the poor have to pay for it in blood!

There are major religious differences between Christianity and Islam. Muslims will not tolerate living with Christians if the Muslims are in power unless Christians pay protection money (jizyah) to be allowed to practice their religion. Christians will tolerate Muslims and will go to school, work and live with them as neighbors when the government is mainly a Christian one as in the United States, Canada and most European countries.
The major reason that Christianity and Islam are totally incompatible is because in Christianity Jesus Christ is considered to be part of the godhead (trinity). Jesus is the Son of God. This is anathema to Islam. In Islam it is shirk to worship any deity other than Allah. Muslims never call Allah as "father".
4:171 Oh People of the book! Do not (overstate and) exaggerate your religious beliefs; do not say anything except the truth about Allah. The Messiah, Jesus son of Mary was in fact (nothing more than) the messenger of Allah and His word which He cast upon Mary. (Jesus was) a soul created by Him. So, believe in Allah and His messenger. Do not say (that Allah is) three! Desist! It is better for you (if you desist). Verily, Allah is (only) One. He is (too glorified and) too exalted to have a son. Everything in the heavens and on earth belongs to Him. Allah suffices as a Disposer of all matters and things! (He needs no mediator).

Many Christians are comforted that they have dear friends who are Muslims. This is what the Qur'an says:
9:123 Oh you who believe! Kill the unbelievers who are close and dear to you. Let them find in you a (firmness and) harshness (of resolve). Be aware that Allah is surely with the pious.

I don't understand how could they both stand the test of time. I know that they will never see eye to eye because of different doctrines and teaching of their faiths. They totally incompatible. Great question!

Self Professed Christians don't see eye with other self professed Christians, as is the same with self professed Islamics. When neither group can agree with themselves, how can they agree with each other?
