depends on how you live. uh. i make $45k and live in queens with one roommate and have a decent life. i still go out way to much and yet dont have much debt like most people here do and i save 15% of my salary. just plan on not having an auto and not living in manhattan and plan on having a roomie and watching your budget.

i DONT THINK its a good amount. What d you have to do is calculate the cost of living in NYC with where you re coming from, plus your average housing costs(village voice.com) and the lifestyle you re mosst likely to live.

To me, $46K isnt enough for you, because you ll probably want to live in Manhattan(most migrants do like rubes) and a 1br around town is like $1400+. So thats like $17,000 in rent. You lose 28% to taxes which is like $33,000 take home. You stilll have food, entertainment, **** like that. Keep looking and ask for a salary in the $75,000 range.
Of course you could share and so on and so forth.

You'll do fine with that, but you'll probably have to live in Queens or Brooklyn (which is FINE, tons of my friends do it...in fact some areas are VERY hip and fun)

I wouldnt expect to save much, and you'll probably have to share an apartment, but again that is pretty normal here.

If you want a decent life in NYC, that is, a decent apartment, eat reasonable well, money for going out and a few pieces of clothing each month, you need to make AT LEAST $90,000 a year.

You will need a roomate and fast promotions. Consider commuting from suburbs or other boroughs. Manhattan living is not cheap.

To live in Manhattan? No. Too low. To live in a suburb and commute, you might squeak by.

good if you are frugal, and don't own a car this will be ok. you will need a roommate and the rest to spend on partying

if you make only $46,000 you may qualify for food stamps, being that you are low-income. if you have children, that's poverty, with the cost of living.

depends on where you live. if you live in the city then i would say that that's not a lot of money.

++ Not very good, as panhandlers in NYC make an average or $50,000 tax free
