Recently I was nice enough to help a teacher out and gave a lecture on my faith, Wicca. When I opened for questions, a few Christians seemed unable to ask for clarification with out using the major tool of their faith, the Bible or understand that beyond the lessons the stories can teach I have no faith in it. Why is this?

Also before anyone jumps on me for teaching my religion to a class. It was a college elective entitled, People and Religion, and the class covers religions from across the globe, including Christianity, Buddism, Islam, Druidry and Hindu to name a few. Oh, and yes I have read the Bible and think some of the stories are good to learn something from. Only to me it is not the "Word of God" but that of many men.

Everyone, has the choice of the religion that they choose to believe, so I am not going to bang on you for choosing your choice of belief. I happen to disagree with you on some things, but I am not going to question you on it, or get mad at you. Mainly because you have free will, and who am I to question what you choose to believe. A lot of Christians get mad at other people who don't believe in Christianity, because they want people to believe what they believe, and they get mad which they shouldn't... and they use the bible because they believe it's the right answer, so they want to throw their religion at other people to try to persuade them, which isn't going to help in the least bit, and I don't think that throwing your religion at someone else is the right thing to do anyway... but that's just my opinion, what do I know... hehehe

I used to be a christian. father was a minister and so I grew up a "pk". anyway, I grew out of it. but it was HARD!

Why?...
Christian belief system is simply one of the largest cults in existence; and to "not believe" is a scary thing since the faith says that one can "go to hell" if they're not careful! So, many "believe" for fear of what will happen if they don't!

also, being a cristian means "selling" it to others - you HAVE to share "the word" and "help" people to see that they are "lost" and "sinful". more fearful garbage that creates alot of fear-based "reasoning" that isn't truly logical at all. but its powerful.

and when engrossed in "this belief", it's hard to look outside of it, since christian's are taugtht they they are the one and only's, and that the Bible is THE (only) word of God. The ultimate blasphemy, of course.

"to me it is not the "Word of God" but that of many men."

Well, there you have the answer to your question. As a Christian my whole faith is founded on the belief that the Bible is God's divine revelation of Himself given to mankind as the Holy Spirit moved the 40 different authors over a period of about 1,500 years.

knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone's own interpretation. For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. 2 Peter 1:20-21

Asking a Christian to defend their faith apart from the teachings given in the Bible is like asking you to explain the wiccan religion without talking about the Rede or things like that.

You answered your own question. A religion that is based on a dogma created by an institution of power, like the Church, is for those who cannot think for themselves and stand on their own feet.

People who want to listen to Jesus Christ, and are fit to receive his wisdom, would hear him through their own hearts, and would be guided in every situation to speak his mind.

Should you be interested in a different view on Christ, perhaps you may click on "Rational Spirituality" on the Dhaxem website. It would not clash in what you believe.

The Bible is not only a religion book, but one of the most trusthworthy history books.

Every archeologist had used it, every city existed and every person confirmed by non biblical sources.

Ancient roman writings talk about Jesus, Paul and the First Christians.

Ancient Egypt writings talk about the Emperor Joseph.

Ancient Persia writings talk about Daniel.

Thats why the bible is more trustworthy than any history book you may have.

Christians must refer to the Bible as it is the word of God and will judge every man & woman that has ever lived.
John 12:48 He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.

Your opinion will not matter on that day, only the word of God will matter and it will judge you whether you like it or not.
YOU SEE THE SWORD / LORD IS THE WORD OF GOD.

If you teach religion, then I would hope you know that the bible is the foundation of their religion. You can't test somebody on 'To Kill a Mockingbird' if don't let them read the book.

It's all they have to argue with. Everything else is in anecdotal absolutes. Because He is. He has always been. It's about faith. Just let Him in. Pray. What if we're right and there is a heaven and hell - what do you have to lose? You are doomed to hell! You'll find out on judgement day. Life is too complex to have happened without guidance. It was God's will. He/She/They were called. Your doubt is Satan speaking through you.

And so on.
