She used to live in AZ but didn't turn in her AZ license after she moved to CA and received her CA license. Is there a system in place that would make the AZ license void?

She carries both in her wallet. Why would she do this?

Is she breaking a law?

OMG she has two licenses and she is Mexican!

Here is a really good Idea, why don't you ask her instead of coming to an Immigration forum? I mean common just because she is Mexican automatically makes it an immigration question?

When a resident of Arizona moves to California and applies for a California driver's license, the California license replaces the Arizona one. Probably if you were to check her California license through a DMV database, it will show the prior AZ license was 'surrendered' on a particular date. (Meaning one replaced the other as the official driver's license for that person). Technically she should have turned the AZ in at the time she applied for the CA license. But she did what thousands of Americans often do and she kept her other license for whatever personal reasons she has, and none of the reasons may have to do with a criminal thought. DMV doesn't get to excited over this, as long as the person didn't apply for a new license under a false name or identifyer, or try to mislead in some way. The old AZ license will expire in due course. She will not be able to continue to renew her AZ license. What she did is not ethnically symbolic. The most an officer might do if he came across this even in the field, is take the old license and mail it to DMV. He 'could' issue a citation if eagerness overcame him/her, but it doesn't amount to much more than a mechanical fix-it ticket. Just my miniscule 2-cents worth. :)

I would need more info first. It is advisable when you get a new license to keep your old one somewhere safe, in case of identity theft. Usually, you do not carry it on your person and you would only use your current one. Having a valid license in CA will invalidate the previous license, but is still useful if you need a replacement. If both the licenses are hers and the information(except address) and picture are similar, she is not breaking a law, just collecting licenses. If they are different, it is possible she is committing identity theft, but I kinda doubt this is the case.
You could always ask her why she has both.

I am pretty certain she's breaking the law.

Imagine this scenario:
She is caught driving drunk in California and gets her CA license revoked. She can continue to drive with her AZ license. I am pretty certain there is a law against keeping an out-of-state license when you receive a state license for just this reason.

AZ licenses are good for likr 50 years, meaning they don't expire for that long. and Yes in is illegal two have two different states drivers licenses. When you reside in a state after moving, and that is where you are going to live, you are suppose to turn in your driver license. You are only allowed one legal residence or otherwise it is fraud. That could cause tax fraud, voting fraud, and probably some other violations. That is a vilation in some many ways. If she gets caught, she could go to jail for many differnet things. Tell her she needs to turn in one license or the other, wherever she is going to claim that she lives.

The arizona license is void since she got a california liscence. She doesnt have to turn it in unless the state says so. There is nothing wrong with carrying both so long as they are hers and she does not try to do anything illegal with it.

I don't know CA law, but I have hung onto my old driver's licenses before. I didn't know what else to do with them.

If you want to know why she carries both, ask her. I don't know if she's breaking the law, but I suspect you only asked the question to see how many people assume that she's an illegal immigrant, since you posted this to immigration rather than law and ethics and specifically said the woman was Mexican.

Why don't you just mind your business. Get a life of your own. Why add "Mexican" to your question. If she can get a legal license all you have to say is that you kno some one that has two id. But your just another idiot racist thats trying to play mind games on the internet and start more hatred against latinos. It seams you are trying to say she is an illegal using false identities. Get a girl\boyfriend and leave others alone. You sorry S@CK of SH!T
