Perhaps the story of Adam and Eve has been misinterpreted. Eve was faced with the choice between ignorant bliss or knowledge -- she chose knowledge. Perhaps that is what God wanted. Perhaps God wants us to choose the pursuit of knowledge over happiness.
I face that choice every day -- and choose knowledge every time.
If I'm right a lot of Christians are going to be very upset when they die.

Yes, yes, and YES!!! It's most important to remember that God saw the end from the beginning. He knew Adam and Eve would choose to eat of the Tree.

God gave us free will, thats why he needed to test adam, God could made human like robots to do everything he wanted. Men was deceived by satan, men made a choice and every choice brings its consequences. Thats part of justice and God is justice. He still loves us, but God love's is not the love you see in hollywood or in the media. The love of God search the final good of every human being, thats why you may see that whats happening to you is unfair but in a long run it benefits you. if you're under God's will of course.

More to the point why did they allow us to create drugs in which allow us to reach this utopia which according to christians A & E screwed things up?

yes God cares about us. because adam and eve ate the fruit out of temptation because of the devil. and God knows that. but He is all forgiving and merciful so he sent them to earth to test their and their children's (which includes us) faith to Him. A test to see if we can resist temptation
