You really have to be persistent for treatment. Sometimes you will get referred to pain treatment centers, etc. There is a mindset that people on pain meds abuse them. Tell the Dr. that you will agree to a drug test at any time. Try a diabetes web site and go on the forums with your location and ask for a Dr. recommendation from someone who is getting adequate treatment. The pain causes disability in many areas of a person's life. You shouldn't have to beg for help. You are not alone. Best of luck to you!

Have you been diagnosed with actual nerve damage by a neurologist? The reason I asked is because my father was told he had nerve damage until he finally went to a neurologist on his own. After test, he was told he did not have nerve damage, what he had was very bad circulation. The neurologist put him on 500 mg of vitamin E daily. At his next check up, his circulation had improve 80% and now after being on vitamin E for a year, he is free from leg pain.

i work in a podiatrist office and there are a few things you can try for the pain, Neurontin and Lyrica are a couple that we see. we also use a website that has informative articles and a discussion forum with a doc, myfootshop.com. you may want to read through the articles and make an appointment with family doc or endocrinologist to discuss your alternatives. use the source as a direct link to the site and good luck!

Talk to your doctor about trying Neutorin or Lyrica (not sure about the spelling on that second one).
I felt like every joint in my feet was on fire every time I took a step - she put me on Neurotin and what a relief!! I still have times that I get that burning pain, but not nearly as often and not
as intense as before.
- Don't you love how they recomment exercise for EVERYTHING!!
Hope this helps you as much as it did me. They'll start you on a low dose, so if it's not helping much, talk to them about upping the dosage.
Good luck!!

Unfortunately, nerve damage is irreversible. All you can do is prevention. Keep your blood sugars in check at all times. Mild exercise should help you to burn off the sugar before they can amass and do damage to your body. The most important is to keep your blood sugar down where it belongs.
